Jodi Arias has been charged with first-degree murder regarding the brutal death of her lover Travis Alexander.

The prosecution argues that Jodi Arias dated Travis Alexander but once the relationship turned sour, she stalked him, moved from California to Mesa, Arizona to be near him, continually seduced him with sex, then murdered him on June 4, 2008, during a jealous rage.

Travis Alexander was found dead in the shower stall of his home on June 9, 2008. An autopsy showed he had been stabbed 29 times, his throat had been slit nearly from ear to ear and he had been shot in the head. Arias, an aspiring photographer, managed to capture photos throughout the attack.

The defense argues that Jodi Arias was not a stalker, but a victim who was manipulated and used by Travis Alexander.

Alexander was a Mormon who previously baptized Arias in the Mormon faith. Arias testified on the stand that following that ceremony, he engaged in anal sex with her.

Defense expert Alyce LaViolette has argued that Jodi Arias exhibits signs of a battered woman and does not find it odd that there is no police record or medical reports that would verify Arias’ claims of suffering physical abuse at the Alexander’s hands.

The prosecution contends that Arias is a proven liar (she told authorities three different stories regarding her whereabouts and involvement in Alexander’s death), therefore LaViolette’s professional opinion is flawed as it is based on lies told by Arias.

LaViolette maintains that she does not believe Jodi Arias lied to her however does admit that if Arias did lie, her opinion might be different.
