Providence weather forecast for Apr. 21, 2013

Providence weather forecast for Apr. 21, 2013, Forecast discussion: After some periods of rainfall early Saturday morning, we saw a little sunshine peek out this afternoon over Providence. Skies are still mostly cloudy, due to some leftover moisture in the upper levels of the atmosphere. As we progress through the overnight, a high pressure system will bring drier air, and skies will clear. However, with light winds and clear skies, temperatures will fall to near freezing levels. In fact, the National Weather Service has a Frost Advisory in effect for Bristol, Washington and Newport Counties for this evening.

On Sunday, we will see bright, sunny skies, as the high slowly moves over northern New York. Temperatures will be quite cool for this time of the year, and we may see another Frost Advisory tomorrow evening along the south coast. We will continue with nice weather into Monday, as the high slowly begins to move towards the Atlantic.

As the high moves off to the east, a low pressure system will begin to develop along the east coast Monday night. The low will form a center by Tuesday afternoon, and will be offshore of Long Island. The computer models are beginning to disagree on the movement of the low. The American and European models keep the low close enough to Southern New England for some showers Tuesday morning. The United Kingdom model keeps the low away from the mainland, and taking it out to sea. For now, I will keep scattered showers in the forecast, as the American model has been quite consistent the last few days.

As the low moves off into the Gulf of Maine early Wednesday morning, a slow moving cold front will be approaching from the west. We should see scattered showers by late Wednesday night, before ending sometime Thursday afternoon. A new high pressure system will provide us with fair weather in time for the following weekend. Temperatures will slowly rise into the lower 60’s for next weekend.
