New Orleans police officer charged with forcible rape

New Orleans police officer charged with forcible rape, New Orleans police officer, Desmond Pratt, 42, was arrested and booked with forcible rape of a 15-year-old girl on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. NOLA.com reports that Pratt remained in jail as of Thursday morning.

NOPD spokesperson, Remi Braden, says Pratt was also booked with sexual battery and put on emergency suspension without pay. At a court hearing Thursday morning his bail was set at $50,000. If he makes bail he will have to wear a monitoring device and avoid any contact with the victim.

Pratt is a Sixth District police officer and has been serving with department since 1997. He is a former homicide detective who was deeply involved in the 2012 investigation of 'New Orleans' Most Dangerous Criminal, Telly Hankton'.

At one time, Pratt was also a member of the Community Public Housing Force.
