Mall shooting announced in advance: Shooter posts attack time on message board

Mall shooting announced in advance: Shooter posts attack time on message board, A man who shot two women at the New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg, Va. today apparently broadcast his intentions on a message board shortly before his attack.

CBS Washington reported April 12 that the gunman, who identified himself as Neil MacInnis, discussed the details of his attack on 4chan.org, a simple image-based bulletin board where anyone can post comments and share images.

“… I go to New River Community College in Christiansburg, Virginia, 10 minutes away from Virginia Tech,” the 1:52 p.m. post read. “I’m gonna give y’all the details because the news never gets it right.”

Officials received a 911 call around 2 p.m. The caller stated someone had a gun at Virginia Tech’s college satellite location in the New River Valley Mall outside of Blacksburg. The caller reported hearing shots fired.

MacInnis gave details about the weapons he would be carrying – a Stevens 320 shotgun, buck shots and slug ammunition. He also linked to an "e-portfolio" profile page where he offered that people could "see what I look like."

The poster added, “I’m a bit nervous because I’ve never really handled a shotgun but a few times with the Christiansburg police.”

Two women were wounded in the shooting and are currently hospitalized. One had to be airlifted out. Both victims are in guarded condition. The shooter is in custody. The name of the attacker has not been confirmed by authorities.
