Gunman holding 5 firefighters hostage in Georgia, On Wednesday, law enforcement officials in Gwinnett County, Georgia say SWAT team members have surrounded a home where a gunman is holding five firefighters hostage. Unconfirmed reports suggest that one of the hostages has now been released.
Dozens of SWAT team members are on the scene where the suspected gunman is barricaded inside a neighborhood consisting mostly of two story homes approximately 35 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
The Gwinnett Daily Post reports that at least 50 police and fire vehicles are in the area, which is blocked off and media helicopters were asked to keep their distance.
According to Gwinnett County officials, the firefighters were responding to a medical call in Suwanee on Wednesday at the time when they were taken hostage by an unidentified gunman.
Gwinnett County Police Corporal Edwin Ritter said a possible motive was not available at this time.
