Builders are doing away with master bedrooms due to sexism and racism

Builders are doing away with master bedrooms due to sexism and racism, Builders are beginning to back away from the term “master bedroom” because of the negative connotations involved. According to an April 18 report on the Washington Times, the new politically correct term for a master bedroom is the “owner’s suite.” It is the larger bedroom with an attached bath.

The term “master” could be interpreted as either racist, as in a slaveholder, or sexist, as in a dominant male. Although some of the older builders continue to use the term, most younger builders are considering the more politically correct designation. In the Washington, D.C., area, 6 out of 10 builders no longer use the term on the floor plans.

According to Randy Creaser, owner of Creaser/O’Brien Architects PC in Washington told the Business Journal that there had actually been a few lawsuits over the phrase! That fear of a lawsuit will be what eventually makes the term “master bedroom” obsolete.

This is where we are as a society.

Be sure and check out the slideshow of some really unique master bedrooms or owner's suites.
