Message in a bottle found 28 years later after traveling from Canada to Croatia, A message in a bottle has been found after a stunning 28 year journey from Canada to Croatia, according to an April 18 Yahoo News report. Somebody has been waiting a long time for a promised letter.
The message in a bottle was written and sent in 1985. It says,
"Mary, you really are a great person. I hope we can keep in correspondence. I said I would write. Your friend always. Jonathon. Nova Scotia 1985."
Hopefully Mary was a patient woman, or hopefully Jonathon sent his correspondence through the mail as well as through the ocean. Mary is not the woman who discovered the nearly three decades old message. Matea Rezik discovered the message in a bottle on the banks of the Neretva river.
Before Rezik finally found and opened the correspondence, the message in a bottle traveled 4,971 miles between Canada and Croatia. To get to the Neretva River, the message had to travel Atlantic, through the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the Strait of Gibraltar, and the through the Adriatic Sea. That is a stunning journey for a little bottle. So many things could have happened to the little bottle in all those miles.
So far Mary and Jonathon have not been reunited. If they are still living, though it seems likely that eventually they will come forward and catch up after all these years.
