Wyandanch man busted in Chinese restaurant burglary spree

Wyandanch man busted in Chinese restaurant burglary spree, A Wyandanch man was arrested Thursday on felony charges in connection with a year-long string of burglaries at Chinese food restaurants across Long Island, Suffolk County police said.

David Thomas, 45, of 17 Bedford St. was arraigned Friday morning on 14 counts of third-degree burglary and several traffic infractions after he was arrested Thursday.

Detectives began to notice a pattern in overnight burglaries at Chinese food restaurants in late 2012, police said. The burglaries spread across six precincts in Suffolk County and three precincts in Nassau County.

It is believed that Thomas targeted more than 50 restaurants in the spree, police said. During the burglaries, Thomas would enter through a front window and typically steal cash from the store’s register, said detectives.

Thomas was busted when First Precinct officers in Suffolk pulled over his car at Parkway Boulevard in Wyandanch at 2:28 a.m. on Thursday. He was arrested at the scene for driving with a suspended license.

First Squad detectives conducted an investigation with assistance from officers in five other Suffolk precincts and Nassau County cops, a news release said. “It was determined Thomas was responsible for the Chinese food restaurant burglaries,” said police.

Police charged Thomas with 14 felony counts related to the burglaries as well as third-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and a violation, unlicensed operator. He was due to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip, according to cops. Details from the arraignment were not immediately available.
