West, Texas still accepting donations after horrific fertilizer plant explosion

West, Texas still accepting donations after horrific fertilizer plant explosion, On April 21, 2013, officials in West, Texas announced they are still accepting donations to help out the victims of last week's devastating fertilizer plant explosion that left 14 dead and hundreds others injured, according to the Waco Tribune.

A volunteer donation officer, Jim Gerik, told the publication he is “overwhelmed” by the public’s “generosity,” but noted “This is a big rebuild… This is not short-term. It is going to be a very long process…”

He also disputed rumors that an abundance of donated good were causing storage problems and some of the items were being given to various charities.

“People need to know that it is all staying here… It will all be used to help rebuild this community…” Gerick said.

The Tribune reports that this point, what is most needed are monetary donations. Gerick noted financial gifts can be sent to Pointwest Bank or the State National Bank, both in West. Those who want to help can also donate online using PayPal to give to specific funds, including Victims of West Explosion General Fund; West ISD; Knights of Columbus; and West Rest Haven Nursing Home.
