"Severe potential will be conditional on sufficient air mass destabilization. Given the strong vertical shear and forcing for ascent forecast, a risk for damaging winds and perhaps a tornado or two will exist if a low-topped convective band can develop along the cold front."

The storm was associated with a strong cold front crossing the region, with a low instability/high shear environment ahead of the front. This type of environment did produce a low-topped convective squall line. Within this line, several kinks or breaks were able to develop, which areas of rotation developed. These areas can sometimes produce brief tornado spin-ups within the larger area of straight-line wind damage from the gust front.
