Texas fertilizer plant explosion: Details on blast injuring more than 160, Tragedy continues to plague the world as a horrific and gigantic blast at a fertilizer plant rocked Texas on the evening of Wednesday, April 17, 2013. A report from CNN.com (and multiple other outlets) states that, as of Thursday morning, there are at least 15 people dead, more than 160 injuries, and between 50 to 60 homes have been damaged with some totally destroyed.

The blast is being compared to war at times and some have even said that it was "like a nuclear bomb went off."

Sadly, Dr. George Smith, the city's emergency system director, says that the casualty count could grow to 60 or 70 people in West, Texas. At least "two EMS personnel that are dead for sure, and there may be three firefighters that are dead," said Smith.

The explosion at the West Fertilizer Co. happened around 7:50 p.m. central time and it is being treated as a crime scene until it is determine whether it was an accident or not. Police from Waco have seen nothing that "indicates criminal activity," but they haven't ruled it out as of yet.

Mayor Tommy Muska said, "It was like a nuclear bomb went off. Big old mushroom cloud."

133 residents at a nursing home evacuated
Numerous houses leveled within a two-block radius
Schools are closed for the rest of the week in the area
Firefighters and emergency personnel have come from hundreds of miles away to help
Numerous hospitals in the area have had the wounded come into their facilities in large numbers. Many patients are arriving in critical or serious condition. Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center reported that five patients were in intensive care and at least 28 patients will be admitted.
