Senate mail halted as poison ricin detected in letter to Mississippi senator

Senate mail halted as poison ricin detected in letter to Mississippi senator, Mail delivery to the Senate is shut down today after a letter that tested positive for the poison ricin was mailed to a Mississippi Senator. According to the Star Tribune on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, police have a suspect in mind today as their investigation continues.

According to “Fox and Friends” live on Wednesday, the man they have in mind is known for mailing lawmakers numerous letters. It was a letter addressed to Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker that tested positive for ricin.

The letter never made it to the Senator, it was intercepted by a Senate mail facility in Prince George's County, Maryland, which is just outside of Washington. FBI spokesman Paul Bresson reports that the tests done initially on this letter produced “mixed results,” so they won't be sure if the substance detected is actually ricin or not until further testing in the laboratory is completed.

The letter did not look suspicious, it looked like any other piece of mail to come through the mail facility. It was postmarked in Memphis, Tennessee, where mail is processed for both Tennessee and parts of Arkansas.
