Providence weather forecast for Apr. 20, 2013

Providence weather forecast for Apr. 20, 2013, Forecast discussion: A cold front passing into the Mid-Atlantic this evening will bring showers at first, before heavier precipitation moves into Providence early Saturday morning. As the front moves through the state, heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms will be with it, but it will only last for about 5 hours. Precipitation will begin to taper off throughout the morning, and we should see some sunshine late in the afternoon.

The sunshine will be from a high pressure ridge, which will be building over Southern New England. The high will bring some colder temperatures, as lows will fall near freezing tomorrow night. By Sunday, despite bright sunshine, high temperatures will only reach the lower 50’s. The high will continue to influence us on Monday, with a few fair weather clouds late in the afternoon.

By Monday night, we will begin to see some increasing clouds. The clouds will be due to a weak area of low pressure which will be forming right along the east coast. The models have been going back and forth on where the actual low will form, but the latest forecast has the low forming along northern Florida. The low will move north along the coast, and we could see some showers by Tuesday afternoon. The low will move into the Gulf of Maine by Wednesday, allowing for some partial sunshine. However, a new cold front in the central U.S. will bring another round of showers Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning. High pressure will return to give us mostly sunny skies next Friday.
