Providence weather forecast for Apr. 15, 2013

Providence weather forecast for Apr. 15, 2013, Forecast discussion: It took a little longer than I thought, but sunshine finally returned Sunday afternoon around Rhode Island. We kept gray skies and even a little drizzle through the morning and early afternoon.

However, a weak disturbance finally moved offshore, allowing a weak high pressure system to finally bring drier air over the region. The high will give us partly cloudy skies tonight, but moisture coming in from the west will bring back mostly cloudy skies for Monday.

Despite the cloudy skies, we will see a little sunshine by the afternoon. This sunshine will allow temperatures to climb into the upper 50’s by the afternoon. We will remain mostly cloudy Monday evening, so our overnight temperatures will only fall to the lower 40’s.

As we enter Tuesday, we will remain cloudy, as the high pressure ridge over New England begins to break down. This will be due to a cold front now in the central U.S. moving eastward. We should be seeing some showers arriving by Tuesday evening. The front will pass to our south, allowing for a brief period of dry weather.

A much stronger low pressure system will develop along the front on Wednesday evening, but will not arrive over the Northeast U.S. until Friday. We will see numerous showers and windy conditions into the night, along with windy conditions. The cold front associated with this low will not pass offshore until Saturday night.

Since we will have a warm front to our north, temperatures will climb into the upper 60’s on Friday. Once the cold front passes, temperatures will cool back to the upper 50’s for the upcoming weekend.
