Justin Bieber to Anne Frank: Hope you're a 'belieber'

Justin Bieber to Anne Frank: Hope you're a 'belieber', Nazi holocaust victim Anne Frank’s diary documents her experiences hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. As far as we know, her diary says nothing of teeny bop sensation Justin Bieber.

According to an April 14 CNN report, that didn’t stop the 19-year-old singer from musing what might have been. While stopping between shows to visit the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam on April 11, Bieber wrote the following in the museum guestbook:

"Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."

Bieber visited the tourist attraction between a concert in Antwerp, Belgium, and a Saturday night performance in Arnhem, Netherlands. Bieber, a few friends and his bodyguards spent about an hour at the museum. CNN confirmed with the museum that the Facebook post with Bieber’s message was indeed authentic.

Expecting the adolescent Canadian pop singer and 2012 American Music Award's Artist of the Year to write something slightly more cultured may be a reach, but Bieber is getting his share of flack from another group of fans – Anne Frank’s.

The ‘belieber’ comment, a recognizable nod to the singer’s nickname, struck many as far too cavalier for such a sobering place. Over 1,000 people have commented on the Anne Frank House’s Facebook page.

CNN had a sampling of what visitors to Anne Frank’s Facebook page had to say about the “belieber” play-on-words:

"Glad he went, but, the last sentence is VERY self serving. he missed the lessons of Anne totally."

"She would've been a WHAT? That little idiot is way too full of himself. She's an important historical figure so show some respect."

"Way to turn an inspiring moment into something about yourself."

"Let’s hope she would have never been a belieber."
