Providence weather forecast for Apr. 13, 2013

Providence weather forecast for Apr. 13, 2013, Forecast discussion: After starting the week with temperatures trying to reach 80 degrees in Rhode Island, we will end the workweek with a rainy, gray, cold day. High temperatures in Providence only reached 44 degrees by Friday afternoon. However, we will see improved weather for this weekend.

For now, we will deal with a low pressure system that formed near the Delmarva Peninsula this afternoon. The low will move out of the Gulf of Maine by tomorrow morning, so we will keep patchy drizzle, mist, and some patchy fog for this evening.

Skies will begin to clear by mid-morning on Saturday, as the low moves off to the northeast. Drier air will remain over the region thanks in part to high pressure settling over the central U.S.

The high will influence our weather right into Monday. Also, temperatures will return to normal, as the mercury rises into the middle 50’s. As we head into next week, we will be returning to the gray skies once again.

This will be due to a developing frontal boundary that will extend from the Ohio River Valley into southeast Texas. The front will be stationary until Wednesday, when the boundary begins to move into the Northeast U.S. The boundary will keep a series of weak low pressure systems moving over the area, giving us scattered showers right into Thursday.

By Thursday night, a stronger low pressure center will move towards the Northeast U.S. on Friday. The low will also bring some warmer air into Southern New England, as our high temperatures reach the middle 60’s by Wednesday. Overnight lows will be quite warm, as cloudy skies keep most of the daytime heat from escaping back into the atmosphere.
