Man witnesses Boston, Waco: Man saw explosions of marathon, fertilizer plant, There is bad luck, and then there is the luck of a Texas man named Joe Berti. The Associated Press reported on Thursday, April 18, 2013, that Berti had finished running the Boston Marathon just before the bombs went off. Sadly, he was back home in his home state of Texas two days later when the fertilizer plant exploded.
"I was just like, 'I can't believe this!'" said Berti, who said he had never witnessed an explosion before. Then he thought: "I just want to get out of here and get away from all these explosions."
Berti says that he isn't unlucky though. That luck has turned to good fortune for him as he was not one of those that died in the Boston Marathon bombings and he wasn't injured either. His wife, Amy Berti, also was unharmed. He also states that he escaped from the fertilizer plant explosion unharmed.
Berti is now the subject of the phrase "Man witnesses Boston, Waco" that has begun trending. He says that members of his running group were also unhurt.
"It's a miracle," he said in an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday. "People keep saying, 'Don't you feel unlucky?' and I was actually the opposite — saying not only do I not feel unlucky, but I feel blessed that my wife could be 10 yards from the explosion and not have a scratch."
After returning home from Boston, Berti went back to work and had a full day on Wednesday of this week. He was headed home and approaching Waco when he saw black smoke in the sky and as he drove closer, he saw another massive explosion.
"You've got to be kidding!" he remembers thinking. He described the giant fireball as a massive force that shook his car. He said it looked like pictures of nuclear explosions that he has seen on television.
Sometimes, there are mysterious forces at work and somehow, there was protection over Joe Berti and his family.
