Man, 57, dies weeks later after being beaten unconscious on street in Macon

Man, 57, dies weeks later after being beaten unconscious on street in Macon, A 57-year-old man, who was beaten and kicked in the head until he lost consciousness, has died days later – and the charge against the suspect is expected to be upgraded to murder.

But so far, they have not released a motive for the brutal assault. It was also unclear what connection, if any, the victim had with the suspect.

Mr. Harold Green died at 1:37 a.m. Saturday, more than two weeks after he was attacked on a street in Macon, police spokeswoman Ms. Jami Gaudet said.

The suspect Mr. Lonnie Floyd Layson, 59, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after the attack on April 4 and he remains in the Bibb County jail Saturday, Ms. Gaudet said.

Investigators said Mr. Layson assaulted Mr. Green on Poplar Street and Second Street lanes shortly before 2:30 p.m. that Thursday.

“The suspect threw the victim to the ground and kicked him in the head, causing him to lose consciousness,” Officer Gaudet said. “Mr. Green was transported to the Medical Center and remained in critical condition until his death this morning.”
