Justin Bieber called ‘little idiot,’ selfish after Anne Frank guestbook entry, Justin Bieber’s guestbook blurb about Anne Frank and his hopes she would have been a fan has drawn ire from some visitors to the Anne Frank Facebook page, who have called him everything from a “little idiot” for his comment to “self serving,” according to an April 14, 2013 CNN report.
Bieber visited the Anne Frank House on Friday and he wrote in the guestbook, “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.” According to CNN the Amsterdam tourist site posted Bieber’s message on its Facebook page.
Anne was just 13 years old when she and her family were forced to hide out in a secret part of the house to “escape the German roundup of Jews in Holland in July 1942,” reports CNN. She was confined to the home for about two years and wrote extensively in her diary until her family was discovered by the Nazis in 1944. She died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945, but her diary entries lived on to detail her experiences and her time in hiding.
CNN reports that angry comments on the Anne Frank House Facebook page over Bieber’s guestbook message hoping Anne would be a “Belieber” included one that said, “She would’ve been a WHAT? That little idiot is way too full of himself. She’s an important historical figure so show some respect.”
Another read, “Glad he went, but, the last sentence is VERY self serving. he missed the lessons of Anne totally,” and yet another visitor to the page wrote, “Way to turn an inspiring moment into something about yourself.”
One person wrote, “lets hope she would have never been a belieber,” and another said, “…Have some respect Mr. Bieber for she will be famous long after your fame fizzles.”
According to CNN, one person went easy on the young singer, quoting Anne and writing, “’Despite everything, I believe people are really good at heart’—Anne Frank I think before everyone goes bashing Justin Bieber we should take a moment to think about these words and why Anne said them.”
