Jill Biden opens Twitter account

Jill Biden opens Twitter account, Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, opened an account April 22 on Twitter.

The account "will post updates and pics," according to the first tweet from her office. "When it’s her, she’ll sign – Jill."

Two more tweets followed on Monday. One offered a brief comment about the White House Conference on Girls’ Leadership & Civic Education. The other offered a salute to Jeff Charbonneau, the National Teacher of the Year.

Among the first accounts her office is following are all branches of the military and First Lady Michelle Obama.

As the spouse of the vice president, she "works to bring attention to the sacrifices made by military families, to highlight the importance of community colleges to America’s future, and to raise awareness around areas of particular importance to women, including breast cancer prevention, all while continuing to teach English full-time at a community college in nearby Virginia," according to her official biography.

She is a breast cancer survivor.

She holds two masters degrees and a doctorate in education.

She has taught at a community college, a high school and a psychiatric hospital for adolescents.
