Boston weather, metro north and west: Early showers depart, then sunny and cool

Boston weather, metro north and west: Early showers depart, then sunny and cool, A cold front is positioned just off the coast of northeast Massachusetts early this morning with a band of rain along the front. Both the front and rain will move offshore during the morning and we should begin to dry out as skies become partly sunny for the afternoon. Don’t expect the mild air to return as a cooler air mass follows in the wake of the front. However, the good news for the weekend is that once the rain moves out this morning we stay dry through the remainder of the weekend and into early next week. It will be quite chilly at night with some interior communities falling into the upper 20s.

High pressure will be the dominant weather feature for Sunday and Monday. A sea breeze along the coast will bring chilly afternoon temperatures with everyone experiencing below seasonal averages both days, despite a good amount of sunshine.

By Tuesday a coastal low to our south will begin to impact the area. The initial sign of the approaching system will be an increase in clouds Monday night followed by a chance of rain on Tuesday and Tuesday night. Once the low pulls away we should see improving weather Wednesday. It will be very chilly for this time of year on Tuesday with the mercury recovering back to near normal readings Wednesday.

Today: Early showers will come to an end and give way to developing afternoon sunshine. Cooler, highs in the mid to upper 50s. Winds becoming west 10 to 20 mph, with some higher gusts this afternoon.

Tonight: Mostly clear skies and very cool. Lows in the upper 20s to low 30s inland to some mid 30s near the coast. West winds 10 to 20 mph in the evening diminishing overnight.

Sunday and Sunday night: Mostly sunny day followed by a mostly clear night. Cool, highs in the low 50s. Overnight lows in the upper 20s to low 30s inland to the mid 30s near the coast. Winds northwest shifting to east and northeast during the afternoon at 5 to 15 mph.

Monday: Sunny and cool. Highs in the low to mid 50s inland, near 50 on the coast.

Monday night: Increasing clouds. Not as cool. Lows in the mid 30s.

Tuesday and Tuesday night: Chance of showers or periods of steady rain. Cool, highs in the mid to upper 40s on the coast to low 50s inland.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy and milder. Highs near 60.
