Boston weather forecast for Apr. 18, 2013

Boston weather forecast for Apr. 18, 2013, Forecast discussion: A high pressure system centered over Quebec, Canada brought dry air and bright sunshine to all of eastern Massachusetts, including Boston. Temperatures reached the middle 60’s this afternoon. We will see a few clouds this evening, but temperatures will fall into the lower 40’s.

The high will continue to influence our weather through Thursday afternoon, but clouds will begin to move into the region. The clouds will be from a low pressure system that extends from eastern Kansas east to central Maryland. This front will slowly move north, helping to bring warmer air from the south. Our temperatures will be cooler Thursday than today, but as the warm front passes to our north, our temperatures will climb to the upper 60’s on Friday.

But, with the warmer temperatures, we will also see precipitation. We will see some scattered showers begin early Friday morning, and will remain scattered into the evening. A strong cold front will be moving towards Southern New England early Saturday morning. We will see the heaviest rainfall during the overnight, and there may be some thunderstorms along the front. Computer models are still forecasting between an inch and an inch and a half of rainfall before the front moves offshore Saturday morning. We will see some slow clearing through Saturday afternoon.

The second half of the weekend looks pleasant, as a new high pressure system will give us mostly sunny skies. However, cooler air coming down from Canada will only give us high temperatures in the lower to middle 50’s into Monday. As we go into Tuesday, a weak low pressure center that will be along Delmarva Peninsula Monday night will be blocked by that high, making the low push towards the north and west. We may see an isolated shower Tuesday afternoon, but at the moment the computer models dissipate this low before it makes its way into Southern New England. A new cold front will bring another round of showers by next Wednesday.
