Boston bombing suspect may have run over, dragged and killed his brother

Boston bombing suspect may have run over, dragged and killed his brother, Teenage Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was captured in a backyard boat Friday night, may have killed his own brother by running him down with an SUV, CNN reported April 20.

And what appears to be a leaked photo of the dead bombing suspect seems to support the idea. However, the older brother also had extensive injuries, including penetrating wounds, all over his body.

In an interview on Saturday with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Watertown, Mass., Police Chief Edward Deveau offered new details about the moments leading up to the death of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, and it appears he may have been killed by his younger brother.

A lone police officer encountered the two bombing suspects around 1 a.m. Friday morning on a dark residential street in Watertown. Each of the brothers was driving a car, one of which was a Mercedes sport utility vehicle that the brothers had carjacked earlier, Deveau told Blitzer.

The two cars stopped and bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev jumped out of the vehicles before the officer was able to call for backup, and they immediately began firing at the officer, who was still in his police car.

The officer backed up his car and five other officers quickly arrived on the scene, amidst a big shootout.

The brothers also tossed several bombs at the officers, some of which exploded, including one made out of a pressure cooker — just like the ones at the Boston Marathon bombings.

Then, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the older bombing suspect, started walking down the middle of the street toward the officers, while firing his weapon until he ran out of ammunition.

A police officer tackled Tamerlan Tsarnaev and took him to the ground.

As several officers attempted to get Tamerlan Tsarnaev handcuffed, they realized that an SUV driven by Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was racing down the street right at them.

The officers jumped out of the way but it was too late for Tamerlan Tsarnaev, and he was struck by the SUV.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev “drives over his brother and drags him a short distance down the street,” Chief Deveau said.

Amidst continuing gunfire, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev drove off, got several streets away, jumped out of the SUV and disappeared into the darkness.

As it turns out, an injured Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was found later Friday in a boat being stored in a nearby resident’s backyard.

Photos of Tamerlan Tsarnaev dead in the hospital have apparently been leaked. The images appear to be consistent with being run over by a vehicle, with significant bruising and trauma to his face, neck and head.
