Arrest made in San Jose kidnapping case

Arrest made in San Jose kidnapping case, A woman suspected of stealing a car and kidnapping an infant strapped inside has been arrested, the San Jose Police Department is reporting.

Police identified Karla Hernandez as the woman who allegedly stole a car with an 11-month-old girl strapped in her car seat inside on March 25. The infant’s mother had stepped away for a moment to close the garage door when the incident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. in the area of Amador Court and Amador Drive.

Police later discovered the car abandoned with the baby inside near Amargosa Street and Buckeye Drive.

Authorities released a suspect sketch, which led to numerous tips from the public. Police say Hernandez was identified based on information provided by the public and physical evidence.

Hernandez has been charged with kidnapping, child endangerment, auto theft, possession of drugs, and being under the influence of drugs. She was arrested Friday and booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
