Willie Mays' wife dies: Hall of Famer's wife, Mae Louise Allen Mays has died, Willie Mays is one of the premiere players in the history of Major League Baseball, and Friday, April 19, 2013, was a sad day for him. The Associated Press reported that Mae Louise Allen Mays has passed away.

Mae Louise Allen Mays was 74-years-old.

On Friday, Mays announced the death of his wide through the San Francisco Giants, the team he wore the uniform of for almost 20 years. The couple did something that is so rare these days and stayed married for 41 years.

Willie Mays met his future wife while playing for the Giants in New York.

The San Francisco Giants announced that Mae Louise Allen Mays died on Friday morning in her sleep at the couples home in San Francisco. She had been battling Alzheimer's disease for quite a long time.

Born on May 26, 1938, she had to learn to grow up in a time when racism ran rampant. The Homewood section of Pittsburgh where she grew up was racially segregated when she was a child.

She was Willie Mays' second wife, and they married in Nov. of 1971.
