In Iowa, the “Estherville Vindicator” used the term blizzard in reference to a storm that produced heavy snow and high winds in Minnesota and Iowa. This is the first published application of “blizzard” as a weather term.
1885
The city of Denver, CO was in the midst of a storm which produced 23 inches of snow in 24 hours, and 32 inches of snow at Idaho Springs, CO.
Rochester, NY had a record high of 90°.
1910
The temperature at the Civic Center at Los Angeles, CA hit 100° to establish an April record for the city. They set a record high the previous day of 99°. Bakersfield & Fresno, CA recorded their earliest 100 degree days.
1948
A three block long section was devastated at the edge of Ionia, IA in Chickasaw County by an F4 tornado. Six homes and a church were leveled and nine other homes were badly damaged. Two deaths occurred in the collapse of the Huffman Implement Store. Overall, the tornado killed 5 people, injured 25, and caused $250,000 dollars in damages. An F2 tornado touched down initially 5 miles northeast of Rochester. Barns, silos, windmills, and machinery were destroyed on four farms as this tornado tracked north. In addition, it caused 9 injuries.

55 inches of snow fell at Red Lodge, MT from the 22nd through this date (6.38 inches of precipitation). Other 2-day snowfall totals included: Sheridan, WY: 20 inches; Pryor, MT: 14 inches and Billings: 6 inches

Washington, D.C. sweltered in summer-like temperatures as high as 95° from this date through the 25th. But the temperature on this date would rapidly cool down from 90° to 47° in just 6 hours that evening. Record highs on this date across the east included: Washington, D.C.: 95°, Baltimore, MD: 94°, Norfolk, VA: 92°, Harrisburg, PA: 91°, Philadelphia, PA: 91°, Salisbury, MD: 91°, Huntington, WV: 91°, Williamsport, PA: 89°, Allentown, PA: 89°, Asheville, NC: 88° and Beckley, WV: 86°.

Severe weather struck the south suburbs of Chicago, IL. Joliet, IL reported an inch of hail with some hailstones the size of golf balls. Heavy rain from these storms also resulted in some flooding. A tornado struck the town of Peotone resulting in damage to nearly every building with damage also reported in Lorenzo and Wilton Center, IL. Damage was estimated at $9 million dollars with about 30,000 structures affected.

A mini-blizzard produced 16 inches of snow at Laramie, WY, including a foot of snow in just 8 hours during the night.

Up to two feet of heavy wet snow fell across portions of Catskills and Poconos of northeastern Pennsylvania and New York causing major traffic delays.

Thunderstorms in the Atlantic Coast Region produced golf ball size hail and wind gusts to 67 mph at Anderson, SC. The high winds destroyed two planes at the airport, and the large hail damaged 50 other planes, and severely damaged 23 greenhouses.

An intense spring storm brought thunderstorms to southern California, and produced snow in some of the higher elevations. Nine girls at Tustin, CA were injured when lightning struck the tree under which their softball team had taken shelter from the rain.
1989
Many cities in the central U.S. reported record high temperatures for the date. The high of 105° at Salina established an April record for the state of Kansas. The high of 103° established the record high for the month of April at Liberal, KS. Other record highs included: Dodge City, KS: 97°, Concordia, KS: 95° and Goodland, KS: 90°.

Thunderstorms produced severe weather in West Texas and western Oklahoma. Thunderstorms produced tennis ball size hail at Lake McKenzie and Garden City, TX, and produced wind gusts to 90 mph at Gage, OK. In Garden City lightning struck a large tree. The explosion shattered car windows, blew open kitchen cupboards, blew out street lights, and dented a passing car.
Thunderstorms drenched southeast Minnesota with heavy rain, with 6.6 inches northwest of Browndale. High temperatures were mostly in the 80s across the central U.S. The morning low of 67° at Fargo, ND and afternoon high of 91° were both records for the date.
1997
On this date through the 24th, locations in and near the foothills of northern Colorado outside of Denver received the greatest snow of the year as a winter-like storm moved into the area. Snow fell at a rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour as deep upslope combined with a moist and unstable air mass. The snow began in the foothills above 7,500 feet during the evening. By sunrise the next day, the snow level dropped to 5,000 feet. The hardest hit areas extended from I-25 to the foothills. Snowfall totals in the foothills ranged from 18 to 42 inches. In Denver, 8 to 18 inches fell. Some snowfall totals included: 36 inches at Coal Creek Canyon, 31 inches at Nederland & Wondervu, 20 to 24 hours near Blackhawk, Echo Lake and North Turkey Creek Canyon, 15 to 19 inches at Boulder, Central City, Conifer, Evergreen, Georgetown and Louisville, 8 to 14 inches at Arvada, Broomfield, Westminster, Wheat Ridge, Castle Rock and Ken Caryl Ranch.

A horrific hailstorm moved southeast from Pennsylvania across Garrett County, MD and into the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. It had weakened some as it crossed Garrett County and the Allegany Front, but as it passed east of Keyser, WV, hail began to increase in size once again. By the time it reached Capon Bridge in eastern Hampshire County, WV, the size of the hail had grown from golf balls to baseballs. As it moved into Frederick County, VA, the hail storm continued to grow dropping golf ball size hail in a swath now reaching from the north of Winchester, south to about 10 miles away in Stephen City. The intensity of the hail stripped and shredded leaves and bark from the newly budding trees. Hailstones grew to the size of softball (4 inches in diameter) just east of Winchester. The storm continued east through Clarke County, southern Loudoun and northern Fauquier doing considerable damage to Middleburg, then across Fairfax County hitting Centreville, Chantilly, Fairfax, Burke, Springfield, and Lorton with golf ball to baseball size hail. It crossed the Potomac River and weakened just slightly. It moved across northern Charles, clipped southern Prince Georges and then into Calvert County with 1 inch to 1.5-inch diameter hail and onto the Chesapeake Bay continuing southeast to the ocean. The damage left behind was incredible. In Northern Virginia alone, it amounted to over $50 million dollars in losses to public and private properties. Some communities saw a third of the homes with siding and roof damage. Some required total replacement. Windows were broken, cars dented and windshields smashed. Piles of shredded plant debris were left on the ground in the storm path. In about 6 hours of time, this one thunderstorm, moving at about 50 mph, did $75 million dollars in damage. There have been other bad hailstorms to hit this area before, but none to cause this much damage to property.

A cyclone battered India's remote northeastern Assam state, killing at least 36 people and injuring 1,500.
2006
Spring thaw caused local rivers to flood Kashechewan in Northern Ontario causing nearly 900 residents to flee for the third evacuation in less than a year. The rising rivers flood homes, and ice debris snaps a valve in the reserve's water treatment plant leaving residents without tap water.
2007
On this date through the 24th, a storm system intensified over southeastern Colorado bringing heavy rain and snow across much of north-central and northeast Colorado. Severe thunderstorms preceded the storm system affecting the urban corridor. Nickel size hail was reported in Boulder and a small landspout touched down near Byers. The next day, heavy snow fell in the foothills west of Denver and Boulder where storm totals ranged from 1 to 2 feet. Heavy snow also fell along the Palmer Divide with totals ranging from 10 to 16 inches. The heavy wet snow caused several power outages. In some instances, it took several days to restore power. Several road closures were reported; including I-25 and I-70 with several accidents.
