Virginia mall shooting: Two injured, one in custody in mall branch of college, A man shot and injured two women at the mall branch of a community college in Virginia on Friday, April 12, 2013, per a report from the Associated Press. After the shooting occurred, the man was subdued by police, said a city official.

The suspected gunman was being interviewed by police on Friday evening as law enforcement continued their work to clear the New River Valley Mall. The mall in the town of approximately 21, 000 in southwestern Virginia includes a branch campus of New River Community College.

Christiansburg is less than 10 miles from Blacksburg, which is home to Virginia Tech University.

The suspect's name was not released right away and no motive for the shootings is known.

One of the victims in Friday's shooting was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, but spokesman Eric Earnhart could not provide any additional information. The victim's identity or condition was not known.

The other victim was taken by ambulance for treatment and was in stable condition, but needed to be transferred from one hospital to another for specialized care.

Student Josh brown was working on a computer near some classrooms when he heard the shots.

"I heard one gunshot, and I didn't know what it was. ... I saw people running out," he told The Roanoke Times.

Brown then got up and ran out himself.

"I'll be scared to come back to school," he told the newspaper as he started to cry. "What's wrong with people? Who would do something like this?"

An emergency call was place to police around 2:00 p.m. on Friday and it said that someone had a gun and shots were fired.
