Twinkies return: Coveted snack cake coming back in July

Twinkies return: Coveted snack cake coming back in July, That is exactly what so many people wanted to hear, and it is now a confirmed reality. NBC News revealed on Thursday, April 25, 2013, that Twinkies are set to return via their new owners and they'll be hitting store shelves again in July.

Metropoulos & Co. and Apollo Global Management LLC formed Hostess Brands LLC to make the great snack cakes again, but they won't be using union labor to do it. It is said that four bakeries will reopen in the next eight to 10 weeks, and the hope is to have Twinkies back in stores starting in July 2013.

Strikes by union workers is what led to Hostess Brands originally going bankrupt and needing to liquidate their assets. That is why C. Dean Metropoulos, Chief Executive, said that the workers for Hostess will not be represented by union workers.

The two companies paid a total of $410 million for the Twinkie and other snack brands from Hostess in a bankruptcy auction. It is planned that $60 million to improve the plants and have 1,500 workers hired.

Fans can expect all classic Hostess snack brands and the Twinkie to return. Others, aside from Twinkies, will come back in Aug. and Sept. 2013. Joining Twinkies as some of the first to return will be Hostess Donettes.
