Springfield weather: Weekend Forecast

Springfield weather: Weekend Forecast, After some pleasant spring like weather earlier this week we sure did end the work week ugly. With temperatures generally in the 30s throughout Friday we had a cold rain with even some sleet and a few flakes mixed in for good measure in some locations. That will be behind us as the weekend unfolds and we have a return to seasonably cool weather and then a milder trend into early and mid week.

We will have to deal with an upper level low that is located over northern New England during Saturday. The day should feature a mix of clouds and sun but there will be a risk of a late day shower, courtesy of the upper level short wave system. Highs generally in the mid 50s, although a few of you will see the upper 50s. A brisk northwest wind of 10 to 20 mph.

Skies become mostly cloudy Saturday night and a chance of a few sprinkles or light showers. Lows cooling into the mid 30s by late night. Light west winds.

On Sunday, the upper level disturbance lifts out and we should see far more sun than clouds. The trade off will be slightly cooler temperatures and a breezy day, making it feel even cooler.

A ridge of high pressure will also be moving into the area and by evening winds should diminish as we get set up for a really chilly night under a mostly clear sky. Highs on Sunday in the low to mid 50s. Lows overnight in the low 30s with a few upper 20s in the outlying locations.

High pressure takes firm control of the weather on Patriots Day and we are in for a fine spring day with plenty of strong April sunshine. After a cool start to the day the mercury will quickly jump through the 30s, 40s and 50s, topping out in the low 60s for the afternoon. Winds will come around to the east and then southeast at 5 to 10 mph.

A partly cloudy sky and not so cool temperatures are in the mix Monday night. Lows in the upper 30s to 40 degrees.

By Tuesday the ridge of high pressure will be offshore. Meanwhile, a strong low pressure system will move well west and north of New England Tuesday and Wednesday through Ontario and Quebec. The attendant cold front to this low will pass through the greater Springfield area late Tuesday night or early on Wednesday.

With the approaching front we will probably see an increase in clouds Tuesday and Tuesday night, with a chance of showers Tuesday night and very early Wednesday. Temperatures in the 60s both days, with the lows in the low to mid 40s Tuesday night.
