Showers and thunderstorms expected tonight

Showers and thunderstorms expected tonight, A strong cold front will slowly approach the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas for this evening with showers and strong to severe thunderstorms. Ahead of the cold front, very mild conditions can be expected with a strong southerly wind at 10 to 20 mph.

Today, clouds will be variable with isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms through this afternoon. The thunderstorms will be capable of heavy downpours, wind gusts over 50 mph, small hail, and frequent lightning. Winds will be from the south at 10 to 20 mph. Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 60′s over Long Island, upper 60′s to lower 70′s along the coast, and lower to mid 70′s over the rest of the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.

Tonight, the cold front will move through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas between 8 PM tonight and 3 AM tomorrow morning. The thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 60 mph, heavy downpours, frequent light, and small hail. The thunderstorms will be capable of producing localized flash flooding, wind damage, and visibility below 2 miles. Winds will veer from the south to the northwest at 10 to 20 mph. Temperatures will fall into the upper 40′s to lower 50′s by tomorrow morning.

High pressure will take control tomorrow morning and remain in control through Monday. Scattered cloud cover can be expected with pleasant and seasonable conditions. Temperatures will range from the mid 30′s to lower 40′s for lows and upper 50′s to lower 60′s for highs.

An area of low pressure will develop and linger along the coast Tuesday through Thursday with a threat of showers expected each day. Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 40′s for lows and upper 50′s to mid 60′s for highs.
