One Boston Marathon bombing suspect dead, the other on the run, say authorities, On April 19, 2013, authorities announced that one of the men suspected of being involved in the Boston Marathon bombings is dead, while the other is on the run, reports NBC News.

The two men were reportedly in a standoff with police in Watertown, Mass. as gunfire erupted leaving a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) police officer dead and a transit police officer wounded, according to WHDH.

Watertown resident Andrew Kitzenberg witnessed the chaos, telling NBC the two bombing suspects utilized “bombs that looked liked grenades” on authorities.

He said when he heard the disturbance outside, he looked through the window and saw two individuals hiding between two vehicles.

“They engaged in gunfire for a few minutes… They were also utilizing bombs, which sounded and looked like grenades, while engaging in the gunfight. They also had what looked like a pressure cooker bomb,” Kitzenberg added.

One of the men then entered a Mercedes SUV, while the other ran toward police and fell to the ground.

The suspect who fled is reportedly the man wearing the white baseball cap in surveillance images released by the FBI.

NBC reports that a law enforcement source revealed one suspect had been shot, and authorities later indicated he had died.

The other is believed to be on the loose, thus Watertown residents have been warned to remain inside their homes.
