Newborn left on beach: Woman finds newborn baby on Hawaii beach

Newborn left on beach: Woman finds newborn baby on Hawaii beach, A newborn baby girl was left on a beach in Hawaii and found crying in the sand, said human service officials on Monday, April 29, 2013, per a report from the Associated Press. The newborn left on the beach was actually a full-term, 8-pound baby that was "abandoned immediately after birth."

At Sandy Beach in east Honolulu, a woman parked and walked out onto the beach sometime between 11:00 p.m. on Sunday and midnight. She heard a number of people screaming and carrying on, but once that stopped, she heard a baby crying.

At that point, the woman, who has not been identified, walked toward the ocean and viewed a newborn baby left on the beach and crying. She immediately took the baby to a nearby hospital.

The baby that was found was naked, but has been doing well and drinking formula at the Queen's Medical Center. Police are currently investigating to find out who left the baby, and say that the case is looked at as endangering the welfare of a minor along with child abandonment.

A hearing is to be held on Monday, and if no family is identified for the baby, the state is going to ask for permission of the court to release a photo of the child. If no-one claims the baby, there will be a petition filed by the Department of Human Services asking for custody.
