Newborn left on beach: Cries in the dark led passerby to naked abandoned baby

Newborn left on beach: Cries in the dark led passerby to naked abandoned baby, A newborn baby was found naked and abandoned on a beach in Hawaii by a woman who just happened to go for a midnight stroll. The baby, who was abandoned immediately after birth, was crying and thankfully so because this is what led the woman to the baby, according to Yahoo News on April 29, 2013.

The woman said when she parked at Sandy Beach in east Honolulu somewhere between 11:30 p.m. and midnight, she could hear several people screaming in the distance. When the screaming stopped, all that was left was the sound of a baby crying. She went toward the sound of the baby's cries and discovered the baby laying naked in the sand. She then took the baby to the hospital.

Hawaii has the baby safe haven law, which would have allowed the mother to drop off an unharmed infant at a hospital or police station while granting her immunity from prosecution. Now authorities are looking for the mother for endangering the welfare of a child, along with child abandonment.

This full-term 8-pound baby girl is doing fine at the hospital. She will be in the care of the Department of Human Services, who will ask for custody of the baby sometime this week in family court.
