Newborn found abandoned on Hawaii beach

Newborn found abandoned on Hawaii beach, A newborn baby was found alone, nude, and crying on a beach in Hawaii according to an April 29 article published by ABC News.

Officials say that a woman found the 8-pound newborn alone and crying on Sandy Beach in east Honolulu on Sunday night. After finding the newborn, she took it to a hospital to be checked by doctors. The baby is reportedly doing well and drinking formula at the Queen's Medical Center.

No one has come forward to claim the infant, and police are said to be investigating the case as child abandonment and endangering the welfare of a minor.

If no one claims this child the Department of Human Services plans to petition the family court for custody.

ABC News reports that Hawaii is one of 48 states that has the 72-hour “safe haven” law. This law allows mothers to safely turn over custody of their newborn children without any questions asked within the first 72 hours of the child's life.

Hawaiian officials say no one has used the law since it began in 2007. The baby safe haven hotline is 800-494-3991.
