MIT gunman kills campus police officer, shooter still at large

MIT gunman kills campus police officer, shooter still at large, A gunman on the MIT campus in Cambridge, MA shot and killed an MIT police officer on April 18, 2013.

The campus is currently on lockdown. The MIT website states that the "situation is still very active and we ask everyone to stay inside."

At approximately 10:48 p.m. on Saturday night, MIT posted on their website that a shooter on the campus at the Stata Center.

"There are gunshots reported in the vicinity of Building 32 (Stata Center). Area is cordoned off. Stay away from area. Gunshots were reported near Building 32 (Stata) which is currently surrounded by responding agencies."

Less than an hour later, Massachusetts State police reported that the campus officer died after being transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The gunman was still at large at 12:15 a.m. on Friday, April 19 and MIT updated their website, asking everyone to "stay inside."

"Responding agencies continue to investigate the situation. The scene is outside of Building 32 (Stata) and 76 (Koch) near Vassar and Main Streets. The situation is still very active and we ask everyone to stay inside."
