Man wanted in 2 counties for rape, kidnapping caught after high-speed chase

Man wanted in 2 counties for rape, kidnapping caught after high-speed chase, A suspected rapist and kidnapper was arrested after a 23-mile high-speed chase in two counties Saturday morning.

Mr. Charles Tyson Heard, 42, of Adel, was wanted in Berrien and Cook counties for charges that include rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment and aggravated assault with a firearm, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 11:30 a.m., deputies were on I-75 southbound when they clocked a Nissan sedan traveling at 97 mph near the 181 mile marker, the sheriff’s spokeswoman Mrs. Allison Selman-Willis said.

A deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop the Nissan and the chase began.

It ended at Tindall Heights near Mercer University when Mr. Heard jumped from the still-moving Nissan and led Monroe County and Macon police officers on a foot chase, Mrs. Selman-Willis said.

Marietta officers caught Mr. Heard and turned him over the Monroe County deputies who charged him with felony fleeing and attempting to elude, felony obstruction and reckless conduct.
