Man accused of shooting girl, 12, during an argument with his ex-girlfriend

Man accused of shooting girl, 12, during an argument with his ex-girlfriend, A 12-year-old girl was shot during an argument between a man and his ex-girlfriend Wednesday night at an apartment complex in DeKalb County.

And police have charged the man, Mr. David Tatum, with aggravated assault, according to DeKalb County police.

The child was in stable condition at the hospital Thursday, police spokeswoman Ms. Mekka Parish said. Police have not released any details on the child’s injury.

The shooting happened around 5 p.m. outside an apartment at The Highland of East Atlanta at 2051 Flat Shoals Road, police spokeswoman Ms. Mekka Parish said.

“The victim and a relative of hers had gone to meet the suspect who is the ex-boyfriend of the relative and at some point an altercation ensued,” Ms. Parish said. “The suspect pulled out a weapon and fired, shooting the 12-year-old.”

The suspect then fled the scene, but returned almost four hours later to the apartment where he was arrested.

Mr. Tatum remained in the DeKalb County jail Thursday.
