Homeland Security on site in Niagara Falls: Suspicious packages removed from car

Homeland Security on site in Niagara Falls: Suspicious packages removed from car, Homeland Security, ATF, State and local police are on the scene at Elmwood Avenue and 19th Street in Niagara Falls, N.Y. after a car with Massachusetts license plates was pulled over during a routine traffic stop. The two people in the car have been detained. It is not yet known if the car and its passengers are linked to suspected Boston Marathon bombers Tamerlan and Dzhokar Tsarnaev.

YNN reported on April 19 that police officers are going door-to-door in the Niagara Falls neighborhood warning residents stay inside. The bomb squad is on the scene and a robot has removed several suspicious packages from the Nissan with Massachusetts license plates.

Reports say that the Elmwood Avenue and 19th Street area in Niagara Falls is not close to the Canadian border, but the detained suspects may have been headed for Canada.

There is no official connection between the manhunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and the car stopped in Niagara Falls. Reports indicate that Niagara Falls, N.Y. Mayor Paul Dyster may hold a press conference later today to address any possible connection to the terrorist attacks in Boston on Monday, as well as the suspicious packages found in the car with Massachusetts license plates.
