Flood warning for east central Florida areas Sunday overnight, The tornado watch for Lake, Orange, Seminole and Volusia counties expired at 10 Sunday night, but was extended until 11 p.m. for Brevard, Indian River and Osceola counties, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
In their Impact Weather Update late Sunday, forecasters say showers and storms will continue across the east central Florida area, mostly towards the east-northeast at 25 miles per hour.
The strongest storms are in the Brevard, Indian River and eastern Osceola county areas, where residents could see winds exceeding 45 miles per hour and possibly tornados.
Showers are also developing along an area from around Kissimmee to Orlando and Sanford and east to Daytona Beach. Lightning and heavy rain could occur as those showers move east-southeast.
Shortly before 11 Sunday night, the National Weather Service in Melbourne issued a Flood Warning for central Brevard county until 1 a.m. Estimates by forecasters were that around 2 inches of rain had fallen in less than an hour in the Melbourne, Viera, Rockledge and Cocoa Beach areas Sunday night, with another 2 inches of rain expected. Earlier Sunday, NWS forecasters in Melbourne tweeted that parts of that same area had received almost 3.5 inches of rain Sunday afternoon.
In their Short Term forecast for the Daytona Beach area, the National Weather Service in Melbourne warns that roads and low-lying areas across east central Florida may flood temporarily overnight due to heavy rain. They add that nuisance flooding is likely “…in areas which get a second or third bout of rain tonight.”
Records from the National Weather Service show that almost three-quarters of an inch of rain was registered at Daytona Beach International Airport Sunday up until almost 10 p.m. Highest wind gusts were experienced between 3 and 4 p.m. at 21 miles per hour out of the east. The humidity has been over 90 percent in Daytona Beach since around 5 p.m.
There is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the Daytona Beach forecast for tonight, with a low of 68 and south winds at 5 to 10 miles per hour. For Monday there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high around 83 and winds south-southwest around 5 miles per hour, becoming calm in the morning.
