Falcons player arrested: Atlanta Safety William Moore arrested for battery

Falcons player arrested: Atlanta Safety William Moore arrested for battery, Atlanta Falcons safety William Moore was arrested Thursday for simple battery.

CBS Atlanta reported April 19 that the 28-year-old Moore, who recently signed a five-year, $32 million dollar contract to stay with the Falcons, was arrested after officers responded to a domestic call in the 600 block of Ninth Street in northwest Atlanta.

When officers arrived, Moore and a female in the residence were arguing. Police say Moore threw the woman's phone and physically assaulted her.

Moore was released this morning from an overnight jail stay and was granted a signature bond of $2,500.

The Falcons issued the following statement:

"We are aware of the situation involving William Moore and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time."

Moore was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He wears the number 25 to honor his Missouri teammate Aaron O'Neal, who died during a voluntary workout in the summer of 2005.

Simple battery is a lesser charge than aggravated battery or assault.
