'Cowards' billboard sends to-the-point message to Boston bombers

'Cowards' billboard sends to-the-point message to Boston bombers, Boston was on lockdown for almost the entire day on Friday, April 18, 2013, and people had to stay in their homes while the one remaining suspect was being searched for. The world and especially the city have come together to say they are "Boston Strong," but now ABC News has pointed out that someone in the city is sending a message to the bombers in the form of a billboard that simply says "Cowards."

The billboard lights up the sky and sits less than 10 miles from the finish line of the Boston Marathon, the location of the two bombs on Monday. Three people have died and more than 170 have been injured due to the two bombings.

The "Cowards" billboard is located just off the I-93 expressway that crosses the city of Boston. It actually belongs to a local chapter of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union.

Two messages flash and alternate every 10 seconds on the billboard - "Cowards" and "Pray for Boston."

Normally, the billboard is used by the union for related and community messages that need to get out in a widespread way. On Tuesday morning, it was changed to the alternating messages.

“It was Local 103′s way of shouting out our feelings of anger: Cowards,” business manager Michael P. Monahan told ABCNews.com.

While none of the members of the union were hurt, there is still a direct connection. The local chapter of the union is located in Dorchester, Massachusetts and that also happens to be the home of one of the three victims. That victim is eight-year-old Martin Richard.

Richard had just gone and given his dad a hug after his father finished the race. Upon returning to his mother and sister, the first bomb went off. Young Martin was killed while his mother and younger sister suffered "serious" injuries.

New messages in support of Boston may be put into the mix by the union for the "Cowards" billboard.
