Cops: Teacher charged for watching porn, touching himself in Glen Head school, A middle school gym teacher in Glen Head was arraigned on child endangerment charges Saturday after police said he was caught watching pornography and fondling himself inside a school office.
Aaron Kozlowski, 31, of Long Beach, works at North Shore Middle School in Glen Head. A judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf during an arraignment Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead, before releasing him without bail.
Police said Kozlowski was caught by four boys at the school allegedly watching pornography in his office and fondling himself. Cops said the incident happened back in February, but hadn’t been reported until recently. On Feb. 8, the boys allegedly saw him watching pornography featuring two men having sex and fondling himself while in his office, according to police.
The boys told investigators that they “speed-walked” from the locker room to avoid being noticed. The incident was not reported immediately and the accusers allegedly told officers that they failed to report the incident because they feared Kozlowski would lose his job.
The incident was reported on March 7 to a guidance counselor, after one of the boys claimed that Kozlowski made a sexual comment while he was doing pushups in a gym class. That day, the boys all went to the counselor to report the allegedly pornography incident, authorities said. Kozlowski’s lawyer said his client never made any sexual remarks to the teen and that the allegations stem from previous animosity toward the teacher, who is to be married in two months.
Judge William O’Brien ordered that Kozlowski refrain from contacting the boys after conditionally releasing him to the custody of the probation department, without bail. His mother and fiancé were in attendance at the arraignment.
Kozlowski’s attorney, Rick Ostrove of Carle Place, said that they teens are lying. “It did not happen,” he said of the alleged incident. “This is a guy who has been teaching without any incident at all for nine years. Never a criminal complaint before – ever.”
“Think about it…this guy who’s been teaching nine years without incident just decided before gym class while kids were walking and with another teacher nearby that he was going to take care of himself,” Ostrove said. “I don’t know who could believe that.”
He noted that Kozlowski’s office where the incident allegedly happened is connected to the boy’s locker room and the gym. There is also a private bathroom with a locking door in the office, he said.
The teens allege that they saw Kozlowski watching the pornography on a Dell desktop computer that belongs to the school. Ostrove said the computer is monitored by school officials. “They made it up,” he said of the allegations.
A spokeswoman for North Shore Schools did not respond to a request for comment. Superintendent Edward Melnick could not be reached.
Kozlowsi has been reassigned pending the outcome of the criminal case, his lawyer said. He is due back in court on May 13.
