Celebrate Earth Day on the First Coast

Celebrate Earth Day on the First Coast, Celebrate Earth Day this weekend and next. You can just enjoy one of our nature preserves, parks or marshes or join the celebration at one of the local events.

Bird Island Park Celebration

On Saturday, April 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Bird Island Park will host an Earth Day party, complete with storytelling, an owl house display, recycle crafting, live animals, a tree talk and walk, plant clinic and sale and lunch. Call Mary Watson at (904) 285-5698 for more information.

2013 Earth Day Ecology Fair

Visit the Jacksonville Landing Saturday April 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the Earth Day Jax Celebration. Over 80 ecological and interactive booths will be on display, along with entertainment, a children's stage, face painting and a Right Whale obstacle course.

Moonlight on the Marsh

This "black tie and blue jeans gala" is the annual fund raiser for the North Florida Land Trust for local land conservation. Enjoy a gourmet dinner, music, silent auction, cash bar and stars at the Outpost at 1288 Neck Road in Ponte Vedra Beach. Order tickets online or call (904) 285-7020. The gala is Saturday, April 20 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and tickets are $100.

Harvest Noon

Dig Local and Dog Foods will hold a farm-to-table brunch fund raiser at Dutton Island Preserve on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Chef Sean Sigmon will create a three-course brunch from local and organic ingredients. Enjoy music and an Herbal Island Walking Tour. Proceeds will benefit Dig Local Garden Education Programs at Atlantic Beach Community Centers. Tickets are $45. Purchase tickets online. Earth Day at MOSH

On Sunday, April 21 from noon to 5:00 p.m. the Museum of Science and History will offer half-off admission and special activities for Earth Day. Special activities include rock decorating, recycling pinwheels and bean planting among others. Also, there will be special showings at the Planetarium including Stars to Starfish and Skies Over Jacksonville.

Party for the Planet

The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens will host Earth Day 2013's Party for the Planet on Saturday, April 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You'll see animal and conservation booths, and enjoy children's activities and prize drawings.

Florida's Birding and Photo Fest

This premier birding and nature photography event includes workshops, seminars and field trips through April 21, at locations in Ponte Vedra and St. Augustine. The keynote dinner presentation, featuring renowned photographers George Lepp and Kevin Karlson will be held at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall on Saturday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets to the dinner are $35 and can be ordered online.
