Car dealer, 68, shot to death after walking in on burglar at Decatur home

Car dealer, 68, shot to death after walking in on burglar at Decatur home, A 68-year-old man was shot to death Sunday when he walked in on a burglar at his home in Decatur.

The victim was identified Monday as Mr. Paul Taylor, the owner of a car repair, refurbish and resale business that he operated out of his home, according to DeKalb County police.

The incident happened at 11:45 a.m. at 1594 Columbia Drive, police spokeswoman Ms. Mekka Parish said.

Officers responded to the home after getting a report of a person shot, Ms. Parish said.

“When officers arrived they found a man suffering from a single gunshot injury,” Ms. Parish said. “The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.”

Investigators said the elderly man had returned to the home with a friend and encountered the suspect as he attempted to enter his home.

“A struggle ensued between the victim and the suspect and the victim was struck,” Ms. Parish said, adding that the man then fled on foot. “Detectives believe the victim walked in on a burglary.”
