California police search for man who stabbed girl child, The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office issued a press release on Sunday, April 28 asking for the public's help in a homicide case involving an 8-year-old girl child named Leila Fowler, who was stabbed to death this weekend.

According to witnesses at the scene, the crime occurred at Rippon Road in Valley Springs, CA., and the suspect is either a white or Hispanic male with longish gray hair and is approximately 6-feet tall of muscular build. He was wearing blue pants and a long-sleeved black top.

Yahoo! News reported on Monday that the suspect is still at large and considered armed and dangerous, but that police have not identified a suspect by name. It is also being reported by KCRA that her 12-year-old brother interrupted the crime when he heard an intruder in the home and immediately sought out his sister, finding her body. She was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Fingerprints and what is believed to be DNA has been collected at the crime scene, and interviews with witnesses are continuing after a search warrant was issued for the home where the homicide occurred. In the meantime, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office has created a 24-hour tip line to handle incoming calls pertaining to the case. That number is (209) 754-6030.

Police fear another potential attack on another child, going so far as to warn the school district for the area and planning a defensive to ensure children riding the bus will do so safely on Monday and that there will be a presence of officers at the schools as well, according to the CCSO.

Despite 100 officers being on this case and the passage of more than 24 hours since the crime occurred on Saturday, there has been no suspect apprehended or named as of Monday.

An autopsy will be conducted on the child's body on Monday, providing police with more evidence and information, which may help lead them to her killer.
