Austin Sigg’s not guilty plea in murder of Jessica Ridgeway stuns courtroom

Austin Sigg’s not guilty plea in murder of Jessica Ridgeway stuns courtroom, On April 12, 2013, Colorado teen Austin Sigg pleaded not guilty to kidnapping, murdering, and dismembering 10 year old Jessica Ridgeway, which stunned the courtroom, according to CBS News.

He also entered a guilty plea for a May 2012 attack on a jogger that lived in the little girl’s neighborhood.

CBS reports that Sigg pleaded not guilty to Jessica’s murder “despite his alleged confession and the discovery of some of the girl’s remains at his home.”

Because he was only 17 at the time, he cannot be sentenced to death if convicted of Jessica’s murder.

Jessica went missing as she walked to school on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at about 8:30 am. Her backpack was found sitting upright on a sidewalk on Oct. 7. Her dismembered body was found several days later in a local park.

At the time, CBS 4 Denver reported that Sigg initially told his mother, Minday Sigg, that he murdered Jessica. The report indicated that after police arrived at his home following a call from Minday, Sigg gave them detailed information about what happened to the slain girl.
