27 hours at sea: Surfer survives over full day at sea after falling off boat

27 hours at sea: Surfer survives over full day at sea after falling off boat, There are some things that happen and people can't help but call them miracles because it just isn't understandable how they happened. That is what the tale of 50-year-old Brett Archibald can be called as the Inquisitr reported on Sunday, April 21, 2013, that he fell off of a boat off the coast of Indonesia and spent 27 hours at sea without a life jacket.

Archibald was aboard a boat with 10 other people in the Mentawai Strait and the boat came upon some rough waters. The surfing enthusiast was on vacation and it wasn't going quite as he had hoped.

The rough waters ended up making him sick so he went to the side of the boat to throw up, but passed out. Archibald says that when he woke up, he was in the water and saw his boat disappearing into the distance.

It was not until the next morning when the other passengers on the boat realized they were short one passenger. His loved ones knew something was wrong though, and a Facebook page had been started called "Searching for Brett Archibald."

During his time in the water, Archibald dealt with the rough waters, seagulls, fish, jellyfish, and other sea creatures. He ended up drifting 11 miles from the location where he had fallen off of the boat.

Eventually, after 27 hours at sea, Archibald was rescued by another boat. Colin Chu was on that boat and said:

"He said he’d been seasick the night before and vomited so much he blacked out and fell overboard from his boat, the Nagalout. He said he woke up in the water and saw his boat sailing into the distance."

Archibald was taken Panang, West Sumatra and to a hospital, and joked about his surfing trip to Indonesia by saying he did not "fly all that way to tread water for 27 hours."

The "Searching for Brett Archibald" page on Facebook proclaimed a message of joy once word got to them.

"WE Found Him! We Found him! … and he’s Alive!! … A boat named the Baren Joey had picked up Brett Archibald out of the deep blue open expanse of Ocean when they spotted Brett holding onto a log and drifting slowly towards shore …"
