Colorado Massacre Suspect Pursues Insanity Defense, Defense lawyers for James E. Holmes, the former graduate student charged with opening fire on a packed Aurora movie theater last summer, said in court filings Tuesday that he intended to plead not guilty by reason of insanity in the attack.

Mr. Holmes, who is accused of killing 12 people and wounding dozens more, will enter the plea at hearing next week, his lawyers said. He faces 166 counts of murder, attempted murder and other charges, and prosecutors announced last month that they intended to seek the death penalty.

Earlier this year, after Mr. Holmes’s defense team said it was not ready to enter a plea, Judge William B. Sylvester entered a standard not guilty plea on Mr. Holmes’s behalf.

But defense lawyers have long signaled they would mount an insanity defense, saying in court documents and during a preliminary hearing that Mr. Holmes was mentally ill at the time of the attack.

A new judge in the case, Carlos A. Samour Jr., will rule on the plea change

33-year-old GM hired: GM Hired By Phoenix Suns After Poor Season, By the professional basketball team Phoenix Suns on Tuesday after the team fell to the bottom of the NBA’s Western Conference in 2013. The Suns have hired Ryan McDonough to replace Lance Blanks as the teams new general manager in hopes of improving on a 25-57 record from this season.

Hiring McDonough instantly raised questions as it’s rare to find a team with executives in their 30′s. Dating back to the creation of the league, only a few men have been named the general manager of an NBA team at such a young age, including Rick Sund and Rob Hennigan.

Sund was named the Dallas Mavericks general manager in 1979 at the age of 28 to become the youngest ever to hold such a position. Hennigan is currently the youngest to oversee a team at 30-years-old. He we named the Orlando Magic’s general manager in 2012 and they have stuck with him ever since.

McDonough will join the Phoenix Suns after three years as assistant general manager for the Boston Celtics. The newly appointed executive worked his way up after joining the Celtics as a special assistant to basketball operations at 23-years-old. The Suns may have brought in a young guy, but this guy happens to have a lot of experience in an NBA front office. Abclocal reported

The Phoenix Suns are coming off their second worst record in franchise history, so it can’t be all that bad when they have a 33-year-old GM hired and ready to add some life to the organization.

They fired Lance Blanks on April 22nd and have now found themselves a man who was involved in two NBA title runs with the Celtics, including a championship in 2008.

Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby released a statement about their newest employee and he looks to be very excited to have McDonough come aboard.

“Ryan distinguished himself among an impressive group of candidates for our GM position,” he said. “His natural leadership and communication skills will serve the Suns well.”

Now with a leader in the office they can focus on finding a leader for the court. Once the NBA playoffs are over, players will start varying their options and the Suns will do the same as they look to rebound after a terrible season in 2013 with their new 33-year-old GM hired and ready to go.

33-year-old GM hired, earlier on Tuesday, word was filtering around the usual NBA circles that the Phoenix Suns were attempting to hire Los Angeles Clippers forward Grant Hill as the team’s new general manager. That potential hire would come on the heels of the disastrous regime of since-fired GM Lance Blanks, and the work of another big name ex-player in Steve Kerr. It appeared that the Suns, as run by former Hill representative Lon Babby, were diving deep into business as usual.

It turns out that the team has decided to decidedly mix things up. Former Boston Celtics assistant GM Ryan McDonough is the team’s new personnel chief, and he’ll have quite the task ahead of him. The Phoenix Suns haven’t made the playoffs since 2010, and the team’s roster is filled with middling players with middle of the road contracts that, combined in an unholy alliance, only managed to win 25 games in 2012-13. The team has no coach. The team’s assistant coaching staff mostly quit in disgust last winter. Michael Beasley’s checks have the Phoenix Suns logo in the top corner. There is a lot of work to be done.

And Ryan McDonough is 33 years-old. He, like a lot of us, had junior high-styled lawn mowing duties the last time the Suns made the Finals in 1993. He is the same age as Suns forward Luis Scola, and younger than Suns center Jermaine O’Neal.

He’s also, probably, the best hire the Suns could hope to make.
SB Nation’s brilliant Paul Flannery penned the go-to feature on McDonough earlier this year, pointing to the longtime Celtics employee (son of the fantastic former Boston Globe sportswriter Will McDonough) as the new face of the future NBA GM. Flannery’s piece is well worth your entire read, and here are just a few snippets:

When McDonough arrived in the winter of 2003, he found a scattered department. Even calling it a department may be a bit of a stretch. "It wasn’t so much a room as just a collection of loose VHS tapes," he says. "My job was, one, to get more tapes because there weren’t that many.

Also organize and edit what we had in a more efficient manner."
"Whether it’s your visual observations, statistical analysis, information you gather on background and personality, if you’re not using all that information you’re at a disadvantage," McDonough says. "The trick is how do you weigh all of that? More importantly where is that information coming from? Over time you figure out individually what’s most important to you as an evaluator and everybody does that differently."
[…]
The front office was small, just GM Chris Wallace and his assistant, a legendary Boston hoops figure named Leo Papile. McDonough made an impression on Wallace immediately.

"I thought he was a basketball junkie," says Wallace. "He loved this stuff. Totally immersed in it, which I think is one of the prerequisites for working in the NBA. Second, he had been around big-time sports at so many levels and association because of his father and his brothers. Third, he was very diligent, hard, hard worker who would do whatever it takes to get the job done and succeed."
[…]
He’s part of a new breed of talent evaluators who have been making inroads into the highest level of the NBA in recent years. His peers include men like Sam Presti in Oklahoma City, Masai Ujiri in Denver and Rob Hennigan in Orlando -- men who have already made the jump to running their own franchises. McDonough may get that chance one day as well. "He’s very good at what he does," Celtics coach Doc Rivers says. "He’ll be a GM. There’s no doubt about that."

Well, McDonough is a GM, now. And as skilled as the man is, there is a massive jump between, um, a suggester and a decider. Strategery is key.

There is scouting – identifying the right player at the right price within the correct context of an offseason, draft, or trade deadline – and there is GM’ing. “GM’ing” involves badgering Sam Presti until he sends you James Harden, it involves pouncing on a freaked-out front office that just saw a Chris Paul deal overruled because of “basketball reasons,” and it means developing a level of patience that somehow outlasts the long summer.
I can’t overstate how valuable that last part is.

It’s that last part that gets in the way when owners want to spend quickly and freely on the sort of mid-level contracts (Josh Childress, Channing Frye, and the Phoenix list goes on …) that have dotted the Suns roster over the last eight years, quick and insubstantial moves that later deny the team a chance at help when it counts pennies and declines to keep a first round pick. It’s the sort of patience that allows you to ride out a player as he explores restricted free agency after his rookie contract finishes. It’s the sort of patience that stops you from meddling or talking yourself into moves that could potentially lead to 42 wins in the heat of August. It’s a dry heat, in Phoenix. There are ways to get through this.

Will Ryan McDonough, upon moving from the trusted knowledge-spewer to the leader of men, be able to thrive given his newfound power? That remains to be seen. The NBA offseason is a bit of a candy store, and though the Suns ownership has proven to be cheap and hypocritical in the past, it can be talked into contracts.
McDonough isn’t coming into this ill-suited for the gig, though. He’s put in the hours, preparing for a chance like this.

Suns fans have put in the hours as well, especially during a Steve Nash-less 2012-13. They’re ready for the quick fix. Ryan McDonough has to be the one that tells them that the NBA doesn’t exactly work that way.

105-year-old bacon woman: I love it says elderly woman, Revealed her love for bacon is making news today. The woman says that the key to her good health (well in to her 100's) is, you guessed it, bacon. On May 7, The Raw Story reported that Pearl Cantrell's love of bacon not only makes her happy but it also keeps her going.

"I love bacon, I eat it everyday. I don’t feel as old as I am, that’s all I can say. I love bacon, I could eat it for every meal — and I do," said Cantrell. Her age and her obsession with the delicious crispy pork pieces scored her a visit from the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile and it's making her a bacon celebrity across the internet.

The 105-year-old bacon woman couldn't wait to tell everyone just how much she loves bacon. Perhaps she shares that sentiment with millions of other people who truly believe that bacon makes everything better -- because, really. It does. Cantrell spoke with a local news station which is what really put her -- and her bacon -- on the map.

"Pearl Cantrell’s love of bacon is so strong that the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile made a stop through town last week to wish her a happy birthday, all because she told a local news station her amazing secret," The Raw Story reported.
Kim Kardashian Cannot Wait For Pregnancy To Be Over, Kim is very excited to have her first child, but she's also just as ready for the pregnancy to be over. HollywoodLife.com reported that after health scares and many fashion faux pas, the thirty-two-year-old will be relieved once she gives birth.

A source told HollywoodLife.com that Kim has "had a miserable pregnancy."

On March 7, she was rushed off of a plane to a hospital in Los Angeles after becoming very sick. Kim was sobbing at the doctor's office in her show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, fearing a miscarriage. Luckily, it was only a scare and both mother and child are healthy.

Her maternity fashion has been criticized by paparazzi and fans since her pregnant belly has started to show. The reality star must be ready to get her incredible body back and not appear on the cover of The New York Post with the headline, "What The Frock."

Kim may be surprised by the hardships that come along with pregnancy after watching her sister Kourtney's past experiences.

"Kourtney had such an easy time that Kim thought being pregnant would be fun," the source said. The source added that Kim "literally can't wait to pop that little thing out."

Perhaps these past months have affected Kim and her future plans. "Kim definitely does want more kids but not for a while," the source said.

These hurdles have not stopped Kim from making appearances. She showed off her pregnancy curves on Saturday in Houston, Texas to promote her line Kardashian Kollection at Willowbrook Mall with sisters Kourtney and Khloe.

Despite her approaching due date, the star has also been jetting around the world. On May 1, she was in London hanging out backstage at Beyonce's concert. Hours after returning stateside, she was back at LAX with her sisters to travel to another location.

Talladega pileup: Big one hits early at Talladega with 16-car pileup, Kyle Busch nudged Kasey Kahne and sparked a massive pileup early in Sunday's Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway, causing 16 cars to be damaged in the process.

The wreck was similar to one in the Daytona 500 which also involved some of the same big names: Busch, Kahne, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart.

Others collected in the mess included Martin Truex Jr., Jamie McMurray, Marcos Ambrose, Jeff Burton, David Stremme, Kurt Busch, David Reutimann, Casey Mears, Scott Speed, Clint Bowyer and Jeff Gordon.

Most of the cars were able to continue, but Kahne and Harvick were among those who could not get back in the race. Democratandchronicle

The wreck also caught Brian Vickers, who had just subbed for Denny Hamlin in Joe Gibbs Racing's No. 11 car. After much talk and buildup, Hamlin was cleared by doctors late Thursday to return.

He drove 24 laps, then climbed out of a specially installed roof hatch when a caution came out for Trevor Bayne's blown engine.

Vickers hopped into the No. 11 car, making a seamless switch.

"The exchange went great," Hamlin said afterward. "That was about as smooth as it could have went for us. Everything went well."

Hamlin added: "Anything Brian gets us for points today is strictly a bonus."

But just moments after Hamlin said those words, Vickers got a piece of the wreck and had to go to the garage. If he does not return, Hamlin and his team will only have earned four points as a result of their efforts.

Anna Nicole Smith daughter: Daughter Makes Rare Public Appearance, Has once again made a rare public appearance and attended the Kentucky Derby.

Dannielynn Hope Marshall Birkhead was accompanied by her father Larry Birkhead at the annual event in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday.

In true derby fashion, Danielynn was spotted wearing a very elaborate outfit while posing for photographs. The six-year-old’s white gown looked similar to one worn by Anna Nicole Smith during her appearance at the Kentucky Derby in 2004. The late model’s daughter and her father were dressed like characters from the classic Disney film Mary Poppins.Inqistir Reports

Dannielynn and her father took a moment to take some pictures at the Grey Goose lounge at Churchill Downs. Many in attendance who spotted the little girl thought she was the spitting image of her late mother.

Although Larry’s daughter sported a gown with red trim and matching parasol and shoes, Birkhead was decked out in a multi-colored striped jacket and a straw hat. He also sported a blue bowtie. According to the Daily Mail, Danielynn’s dad strongly resembled comedian Dick Van Dyke from the family flick.

Larry tweeted prior to the Derby that his daughter really wanted to dress up as Mary for the event. In an effort to make that happen, Birkhead had the outfits designed specifically for the occasion. Judging from the pictures at Too Fab, the pair pulled off the look quite well.

Last year’s event in Louisville found Dannielynn sporting a floral dress complete with flowers in her hair. It would appear that attending the Kentucky Derby is an important family tradition.

Although Anna Nicole Smith chose to live her life in the public eye, Dannielynn has remained out of the spotlight most of her short life. She has been spotted at the Kentucky Derby and a Broadway show, but these appearances are few and far between. However, last year she started modeling for Guess Kids.
What do you think about Larry Birkhead and Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter dressing up like characters from Mary Poppins for the Kentucky Derby this weekend?

Bride killed limo fire: 5 killed in limo fire on way to bridal shower, Five women died late Saturday when a limousine heading to a bridal shower burst into flames on the San Mateo Bridge, trapping the victims inside while the driver and four other women escaped. The woman for whom the bridal shower was being thrown was among those killed, her sister said Sunday.

She had recently married and had planned to return to her native Philippines for another ceremony next month. The limo was going west on the bridge at about 10 p.m. when smoke began pouring out of the rear passenger area, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.

The driver managed to stop the car, and he and those in the front scrambled to safety. But the fire evidently spread so quickly that the rest of the occupants were unable to get out in time - the CHP said they died at the scene. Reports sfgate

Emergency crews extinguished the blaze before it engulfed the entire vehicle, but the rear of the white, 1999 Lincoln Town Car was left a charred ruin. "We don't know what caused the accident yet," said CHP Officer James Evans. "It wasn't a traffic collision, we do know that, but we are still investigating."

The four women who escaped the blaze were hospitalized for burns and smoke inhalation, while the limousine's driver, 46-year-old Orville Brown of San Jose, was unhurt.

Relatives said Sunday that Brown didn't know how the fire had started and had been alerted to the blaze when one of the women reported smelling smoke. Brown helped some of the survivors to safety but was unable to save the women in the back, relatives said.

The dead women were all in their 30s and 40s, the CHP said. They included 31-year-old Neriza Fojas of Fresno, for whom the bridal shower was to be thrown at the Crowne Plaza Hotal in Foster City, said her sister, Roslyn Bersamin.

Fojas, a registered nurse at the Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, was married recently in the United States, said her sister, who lives in Hawaii. The couple were planning to travel to her native Philippines next month and hold another ceremony before her family June 19, Bersamin said. "She was a hard worker, a loving sister," a sobbing Bersamin said.

Fojas' husband was staying at the Foster City hotel, Bersamin said. She said she did not know how the limousine fire had started and was waiting for an update from law enforcement investigators.

The San Mateo County coroner's office said none of the names of the other four women killed in the fire would be released before Monday. However, a spokeswoman at Community Medical Centers, parent company of the Fresno hospital, said at least one other employee may have been involved in the accident.

The women had attended a birthday party in Alameda earlier in the evening, said Rosita Guardiano, 73, mother of one of the survivors, 42-year-old Mary Grace Guardiano of Alameda.

Rosita Guardiano said she did not know how the fire started. Her daughter, who goes by Grace, is in intensive care being treated for smoke inhalation, she said.

"She's OK, but it is very scary," the mother said. "Thank God she survived. I've been crying all morning.

"My daughter is very sad and crying, too. This was supposed to be such a happy day." Grace Guardiano had worked with Fojas earlier and is now a nurse at Crown Bay Nursing Home in Alameda, her mother said.

A supervisor at the nursing home, Dina Sanchez, said she and the staff were "all shocked, but incredibly relieved to find out that Grace is OK."

Guardiano's mother said her daughter was hospitalized with another survivor, Nelia Arrellano, 36, of Oakland, Arrellano just moved to the Bay Area from the Philippines, Rosita Guardiano said.

Authorities said all the surviving women were being treated for moderate injuries.

"Grace told us, 'Don't worry, don't worry,' " her mother said.

The survivors were being treated at Stanford Medical Center and Valley Medical Center in San Jose.

Besides Guardiano and Arrellano, they were identified as 34-year-old Jasmine Desguia of San Jose and Amalia Loyola, 48, of San Leandro. Sanchez said Loyola works at another convalescent hospital in Oakland.

The limo was owned by Limo Stop Inc. Its owner, Kultar Singh, said Sunday, "I'm very, very saddened" by the accident, but declined to comment further about what happened.

Singh said he has owned Limo Stop for about seven years. State records show that the company's license is valid and up to date.
Cleveland Volcano: Low-level eruption still continues at Alaska's Cleveland Volcano, In Alaska continues to be undergoing a low-level eruption following the Saturday's morning explosion, the Alaska Volcano Observatory and the United States Geological Survey said.

Scientists said images captured by satellites and installed cameras were showing continuous low-level emissions of gas, mist and ash.

A soft cloud of ash has extended eastward below 15,000 feet, and estimates have suggested that the clouds of ash could exceed even 20,000 feet above the sea level. Frenchtribune reports

Scientists said in a statement, "Sudden explosions of blocks and ash are possible with little or no warning. Ash clouds, if produced, could exceed 20,000 feet above sea level."

The level of aviation alert has already been raised to "Orange," from "yellow." A bigger ash emission could even threaten international flights. But, the Federal Aviation Administration has so far announced no flight restrictions.

The eruption activity started with an explosion in early morning on the past Saturday. The first explosion was recorded at 5 a. m., which was followed by two other explosions at 9:17 a. m. and 11:44 a. m.

The volcano is situated in the Aleutian Islands' isolated region that is nearly 940 miles southwest of Anchorage. Previously, its significant eruption started in February 2001, when three explosions took place, creating ash clouds as high 39,000 feet above the sea level.

Lindsay Lohan rehab: Lindsay Lohan talks drugs, booze, rehab, sex, the last story you read about Lindsay Lohan for the next three months if all goes well during her 90-day stay at the Betty Ford Clinic. Just days before checking into court-ordered rehab last week, the actress spoke extensively to Piers Morgan in an article for London's Daily Mail newspaper, which published it in this Sunday's edition.

Lohan, who turns 27 in two months, told Morgan, host of CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight," she's never been "a huge drinker" and despite rumors, failed drug tests and a drug possession arrest, she's only used cocaine "maybe four or five times in my life."

She's spent more than 250 days in rehab and another trip "is pointless," she said in the Daily Mail story. Instead, she should be allowed to "go abroad to different countries and work with children." reports CNN

Lohan's life off the rails

Lohan's life and career ran off the rails starting in her disastrous year of 2007 when she was twice convicted of drunken driving, once for cocaine use, made three trips to rehab and served an 84-minute jail stay.

Her arrests were "totally irresponsible -- a stupid mistake," she said. "And from then on, the press were on me all the time," Lohan said. "It was the first time I'd taken drugs. I was out in a club with people I shouldn't have been with, and took cocaine, and got in the car.

It was so stupid." Her first rehab visit was not because of drugs or alcohol but to help her deal with the trauma she experienced making a movie, she told Morgan. She voluntary checked into the Wonderland Center in Los Angeles while she was shooting "I Know Who Killed Me" in January 2007.

Lohan's legal woes: A timeline

"I was having really bad nightmares, and the movie was pretty traumatizing," Lohan said. "So I stayed in a facility so I could get some sleep and talk about it with someone the next day, because it was overwhelming. But I would leave every day and just sleep there at night. I liked that. It was kind of like having my own live-in therapist, because I was having crazy nightmares and I was having AA meetings on set and stuff. It really helped."

Lohan: The good teenager

She had been drinking for less than a year at that point, Lohan said. She stayed away from alcohol after her first hangover experience at 17, when her mother made her "sleep with vomit still on me so I'd understand how it felt," she said. "I was too scared!"

She was a good teenager, she said. "My friends and I would actually pretend to be drunk," she said. "And it was more fun. I never rebelled against my parents -- I worked hard, I was responsible and I didn't go to high-school parties."

She doesn't consider herself to be an alcoholic -- "I've never woken up in the morning and had a drink" -- but "when I was younger, I was definitely going out too much and I was drinking too much."

Constantly sending me to rehab is pointless.

Lindsay Lohan

Lohan: A rehab expert

Lohan considers herself an expert on rehab facilities.

"I've been court-ordered to do it six times," she said. "I could write the book on rehab. Constantly sending me to rehab is pointless. The first few times I was court-ordered to rehab, it was like a joke, like killing time."

Morgan interviewed her before the confusion erupted over which rehab facility she would enter. After arriving at one -- which California officials said was unlicensed -- she left for the Betty Ford Clinic, where she spent her last and longest rehab stay.

"I look at it as a good thing," she said about this rehab visit. "I can come back afterwards and be fully focused on work. But I think there are other things I could do instead of going to a rehab center that would benefit me more. The best thing they could do for me would be to make me go abroad to different countries and work with children."

Lohan: Clean and sober

If she is not a drug user -- she tells Morgan she smoked "some pot" a year ago -- or an alcoholic, then why would she need rehab, Morgan asked.

"This is where it gets hard for me to explain," she said. "I don't think there's anything wrong with people taking time to just be by themselves. I think people want to see me do that. They will keep saying the same things about me if I don't. I don't think it will be a bad thing for me to be away with myself for three months."

Although now confessing to Morgan that she used drugs a year ago, she told Matt Lauer on NBC's "Today" show a year ago that that she was "clean and sober" then for "a long time."

Although she was once arrested for cocaine possession and later sent to rehab when she violated probation by testing positive for the drug, Lohan said she rarely used it since "I don't like it."

Cocaine: Not her favorite drug

"It reminds me of my dad," she said. "I took it four times in a period from about the age of 20 to 23, and I got caught twice."

Cocaine made her feel "a little too buzzed -- it made me feel uncomfortable," she told Morgan.

She's not "a junkie," she said. "It's the truth. I've never taken heroin either, never injected myself with anything, never done LSD. Those things all scare me."

Her drugs of choice are "pot, obviously, and Ecstasy," she said. "I liked that (Ecstasy) better than the others." Morgan reports Lohan then giggled.

I just like going out late to clubs with friends.
Lindsay Lohan

Lohan: Not a junkie

Lohan has previously acknowledged having a drug problem, though. She posted this Twitter message in September 2010 just before entering the Betty Ford Clinic for three months: "Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn't go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps."

Lohan claimed to Morgan that she's just misunderstood. The constant online tabloid reports of late-night partying, which sometimes results in legal issues, don't show the real person.

"I've never been a junkie, and never will be," she said. "I just like going out late to clubs with friends and listening to music. Always have done. It's not that unusual for girls of 26!"

Heath Ledger's advice

She slowed down on her drinking on the advice of an actor, Lohan said.

"Heath Ledger told me to give it up for a year because he'd just done that, and so I did, and it wasn't a problem for me," she said. Ledger was 28 when he died from a prescription drug overdose in January 2008, a year after Lohan's first rehab visit.

I know I'm straight.
Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay prefers men

Lohan also talked to Morgan about her sexuality -- she's straight despite a past relationship with a woman. "I like boys," she said.

"I know I'm straight," she said. "I have made out with girls before, and I had a relationship with a girl. But I think I needed to experience that and I think I was looking for something different."

She said she was in love with Samantha Ronson during their relationship, and "I still love her as a person."

"I like being in a relationship with a guy," Lohan said. "But there's something just different about it with a woman. When I was with Samantha, I didn't want to leave, because I didn't want to be alone. It was very toxic."

Dad 'creates chaos'

About her father, Michael Lohan: "He won't change," she said. "I just think there comes a point where you just kind of have to accept what it is.

"Whenever I do try to bring him back into my life, he creates chaos for me and uses it to his advantage. He's been really good and then really crazy my whole life."

Meryl Streep was nice. She just advised me on my acting.
Lindsay Lohan

Hollywood friends

While she blames the Los Angeles lifestyle for steering her off course, she does point to two Hollywood women who have helped her.

"Meryl Streep was nice," Lohan said. "She just advised me on my acting and what I needed to do differently, and she told me I needed to go back to live with my mum for a while."

She couldn't move back to New York because at the time, her probation requirements, which including regular drug testing, restricted her to California -- "the worst possible place I could be," she said.

"Jamie Lee Curtis was very kind to me, too," she said. "She also told me to listen to good advice and to get rid of the hangers-on."

Stay tuned

Will you see another story about Lindsay Lohan's substance abuse and legal troubles before she's scheduled to get out of rehab in early August? What could happen in the Betty Ford Clinic, a well-respected refuge for those needing to get their lives back on track?

Lohan was accused of assaulting a Ford staff member during her last stay in December 2010, although the investigation was suspended on December 24 after the staffer drops charges against Lohan.

Just weeks after her release from there, she was again involved in controversy for stealing a necklace from a jewelry store. It was that shoplifting conviction that put her on the road to her current rehab visit.

Bride killed limo fire: Five women, bride-to-be die in limousine burnt car, was along with several other women is topping news headlines this week, as KTVU News reported this Sunday, May 5, that a bride-to-be was tragically one of the ladies killed this Saturday night following a devastating explosion on a Calif. bridge.

The “bride killed limo fire” story begins something like this: according to CBS News, nine women were in the back of a limousine as part of a bachelorette party yesterday when the Lincoln limo caught fire on Highway 92.

“It appears the white town car limo was traveling westbound on the number three lane, when for some unknown reason, caught on fire,” said an officer on the tragic death of a bride killed in the limo fire with her friends. “The Driver stopped the vehicle in the number three lane.”

The driver of the limo escaped after seeing the fire, pulling over, and rushing out of the vehicle. Five of the nine women were killed after the limo caught fire, while the four others were taken to local hospitals for burns and smoke inhalation-related injuries. Police are currently investigating the cause of the limousine fire, which remains unknown. Our hearts go out to the bride-to-be, the other women

Lindsay Lohan rehab: Rehab Center is unlicensed, claims state official, The facility Lindsay Lohan entered Thursday to comply with court-ordered rehab is not licensed to provide alcohol or drug rehab treatment, a state official said. Lohan, 26, flew from New York to California last night to check into Morningside Recovery in Newport Beach, California, by the Thursday morning deadline for her to start her 90-day sentence. When Los Angeles Superior Judge James Dabney sentenced Lohan to 90 days in jail in March he gave her the option of serving the time in a "lock down rehab" facility.

"If a 24-hour residential facility is providing treatment or services to promote the recovery of alcohol and drug abuse then they must possess a license," deputy director for the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs Millicent Tidwell said. None of Morningside's several California locations are licensed, Tidwell said. The company previously had three licenses, but they were all revoked. The state's licensing agency is currently in litigation with Morningside's unlicensed Newport Beach facility, she said. Edition.Cnn reports

It is not known if prosecutors will ask the judge to order Lohan to move to another facility or else be sent to jail to serve out the sentence. The city attorneys for Santa Monica and Los Angeles, who were jointly prosecuting the actress, did not immediately respond to CNN inquiries. Judge Dabney ordered the treatment after Lohan entered pleas of no contest on charges relating to a traffic accident and she was found in violation of her shoplifting probation with those convictions. "It's not her fault," her father said. "This poor kid was a mess before she left." Her lawyer, Mark Heller, arranged for Lohan to check into Morningside Recovery without approval by the prosecutors, he said. "Lindsay had no idea that Morningside wasn't approved," Michael Lohan said.

Heller appeared in a Los Angeles court to discuss the matter with the judge and prosecutors Thursday morning.

Her father, who has bitterly opposed Heller's representation of Lohan, said he has been urging his daughter to go the the Lukens Institute in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, which bills itself as a "luxury rehab center."

"The Lukens Institute is where she wanted to go all along -- a place she will get the right treatment and finally get better," Michael Lohan said.

Her six years of legal troubles trace back to two drunken driving arrests in 2007 and include other incidents in which she was behind the wheel.

Lohan was charged with reckless driving and lying to a police officer about a June 2012 car crash in which her Porsche crashed in to a dump truck on the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica, California. Her arrest triggered the probation violation charge.

The police report said Lohan denied being behind the wheel, but the prosecutor was expected to call witnesses who say she was driving.

Lindsay Lohan acknowledged her drug and alcohol addiction in past court appearances.

She's spent 250 days in five rehab facilities since January 2007, including one long court-ordered stint after a failed drug test.

The actress has appeared in court at least 20 times before four Los Angeles judges who have now found her in violation of probation six times and sentenced her to a total of nine months in jail.

Lohan has spent about two weeks behind bars in six trips to the Los Angeles County jail, served 35 days under house arrest and worked about 67 days of community service at the county morgue.

Bride killed in limo fire after Tragic fire in limo kills bride and 4 others, Five people were killed Saturday night after a limousine that was on it's way to a bridal shower erupted into flames on the San Mateo Bridge. The bride-to-be, along with the other victims, was trapped inside while the driver and four other women managed to escape, KTVU explained on May 5.

According to the report, police received calls of a white Lincoln town car limo that was ablaze on Highway 92, just east of Foster City, at about 10 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel stated to the press.

“It appears the white town car limo was traveling westbound on the number three lane, when for some unknown reason, caught on fire,” said Montiel. “Driver stopped the vehicle in the number three lane.”

The limo driver, Orville Brown, 46, immediately stopped the limo and got out when he noticed the fire. He was able to escape uninjured. The nine passengers in the limo were all women in their 30s, Montiel said.

Five of the passengers were killed in the limo fire, and four others were taken to nearby hospitals to be treated for smoke inhalation and burns.

The bridal party was reportedly driving from Oakland to a hotel in Foster City when the fire broke out in the back of the limo, the San Mateo County Coroner's office said in a statement.
LimoStop Inc. is the company that owns the limo and they said they are cooperating in the official investigation.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragedy last night involving the young women, five of whom lost their lives in the limousine fire on the San Mateo Bridge," said the Statement. "LimoStop Inc. will do everything possible to investigate and assist authorities in determining the cause of this fire in order to help bring forth answers and provide closure to the victims and their families."

The bride killed in the limo fire was identified as Neriza Fojas. None of the other women killed have been identified as of yet.

The cause of the limo fire is still unknown, but a thorough investigation will be conducted, Montiel said.

Cleveland Volcano: Eruption causes travel alert to be issued, An eruption of a Cleveland Volcano in Alaska was reported by the Daily Mail on Sunday, May 5, 2013, and there have already been some alerts issued. The remote volcano erupted on Saturday with three different explosions and started shooting forth a continuous plume of steam, gas, and ash. The problem is that all of this is happening right underneath a route of high air traffic.

The location in question is actually a huge air traffic stretch between North America and Asia. Luckily, the issues are not severe enough to cause any threats to passing planes, but that is as of now.

Alerts were issued by a number of aviation authorities, and it even prompted a few flights to be diverted.

Like all of the volcanoes in the Alaska Aleutian island chain, the Cleveland Volcano sits beneath that air traffic corridor. Scientists are currently watching the volcano and studying the ash cloud, which has reached an altitude of only about 15,000 feet. Most jets fly about 35,000 feet.

The Cleveland Volcano has had increased activity since 2011 including brief outbursts followed by calm. Scientists are not sure if this recent explosion will follow the same pattern.

"We haven't seen a phase like this where we've had multiple explosions," said Rick Wessels, a geophysicist at the US Geological Survey's Alaska Volcano Observatory, told Reuters.

Bride among five killed when limo bursts into flames on San Mateo-Hayward bridge, The bride was among five killed Saturday when a limousine carrying nine women to a bridal shower burst into flames on the San Mateo-Hayward bridge, authorities said. Four of the women and the driver escaped the fire inside the 1999 Lincoln Town Car as it was burning on the westbound side of the bridge around 10:05 p.m. But according to her grieving family, Neriza Fojas of Fresno, who was to be married next month in the Philippines, didn't make it out in time.

"She is everything," said her brother-in-law Joseph Bersamin of Honolulu, Hawaii through tears. "She is so nice to everyone." Fojas had already married her husband, but the couple planned a ceremony and reception for family on June 19.

The other victims' names won't likely be released until Monday because the coroner needs dental records to confirm the identities of the severely burned women. Two of the survivors were in critical condition at a San Jose hospital Sunday, the condition of two others was not immediately available. Police said the driver walked away unhurt.

A dispatcher for Limo Stop, the Town Car's operator, said the company is cooperating with the California Highway Patrol's investigation. "We are very shocked," said Limo Stop dispatcher Pam Kaur. "We are cooperating with the police." She said she didn't have any further information about how the fire might have ignited and messages left for the company CEO Kultar Singh were not immediately returned.

It wasn't clear what sparked the fire, but it seems to have started in the rear of the vehicle and then spread quickly. The driver managed to pull over the limo, but only four of the passengers were able to escape, police said. Kaur said she wasn't aware of any problems with the car.

Early Sunday authorities released the names of those who survived: driver Orville Brown, 46, of San Jose, who was uninjured; and passengers Mary G. Guardiano, 42, of Alameda;
Nelia Arrellano, 36, of Oakland; Amalia Loyola, 48, of San Leandro and Jasmine Desguia, 34, of San Jose.

Loyola and Desguia remained hospitalized Sunday in critical condition at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, said center spokeswoman Joy Alexiou.

San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault said the limo picked up the women in Oakland and was taking them to the Crowne Plaza hotel on Chess Drive in Foster City as part of a bridal shower. The bride was killed in the flames, but the coroner's office will perform an autopsy before determining the final cause of death.

Two of the four women who escaped were taken to Stanford Hospital and two others were taken to San Jose. All four are being treated for smoke inhalation and burns.

According to records from the California Public Utility Commission, which regulates limo companies, Limo Stop was licensed and insured. It was not immediately clear if the company had been cited for previous safety problems.

All westbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours Saturday evening, though one lane was reopened about 1 a.m. with officials still on the scene investigating.

Damascus Explosions: Syria says Israeli Bombs Airstrike on Damascus, Rocked the capital of Syria for the second time in three days, as reports of the airstrike poured in on social and conventional media.

According to an unnamed source, Israel struck a research center near Damascus which was developing Fateh-110 missiles with advanced guidance systems. Other reports say that the facility was an arms storage depot. Whatever it was, the highly visible explosions near Syria’s capital were filmed and uploaded to YouTube in a matter of hours. News.yahoo reports

Israel hasn’t given very complete details of the airstrike, but an Israeli military statement acknowledged that it had deployed two rocket defense batteries near its northern border. The Syrian Foreign Ministry sent a letter Sunday to the United Nations complaining about the attacks within their borders, directly accusing Israel of aggression and saying that several people had been wounded.

“The Israeli attack on military sites in Syria is proof that there is communication between Israel and the terrorist groups who take their orders from al-Qaeda,” said a report on the Syrian state television. The Syrian government has frequently accused the rebel forces of being terrorists.

Late last week, most intelligence sources including the US Department of Defense concluded that Israel had likely conducted an airstrike in Lebanon to stop advanced missiles from Syria being delivered to the Hezbollah terror group. While being somewhat cagey with details, Israeli officials said that they wouldn’t tolerate the delivery of chemical or advanced weapons to Hezbollah.

Later, both Israeli and US officials acknowledged that a shipment of advanced missiles had been destroyed in a Friday strike near the Damascus airport.

Syria didn’t acknowledge the strike at first. However, with social media recording the many explosions around Damascus, they couldn’t ignore the new bombing.

Frontier fort found: Revolutionary War Found in Ga., Less than two months after British forces captured Savannah in December 1778, patriot militiamen scored a rare Revolutionary War victory in Georgia after a short but violent gunbattle forced British loyalists to abandon a small fort built on a frontiersman's cattle farm.

More than 234 years later, archaeologists say they've pinpointed the location of Carr's Fort in northeastern Georgia after a search with metal detectors covering more than 4 square miles turned up musket balls and rifle parts as well as horse shoes and old frying pans.

The February 1779 shootout at Carr's Fort turned back men sent to Wilkes County to recruit colonists loyal to the British army. It was also a prelude to the more prominent battle of Kettle Creek, where the same patriot fighters who attacked the fort went on to ambush and decimate an advancing British force of roughly 800 men.

The battles were a blow to British plans to make gains in Georgia, the last of the original 13 colonies, and other Southern settlements by bolstering their ranks with colonists sympathetic to the crown.

"The war was going badly up north for the British, so they decided to have a southern campaign and shipped a huge amount of troops down here and started recruiting loyal followers," said Dan Elliott, the Georgia-based archaeologist who found the fort with a team from the nonprofit research group, the LAMAR Institute.

"Kettle Creek was probably the best victory that the Georgians ever had in the Revolutionary War. Most battles were failures like the capture of Savannah."

Carr's Fort, midway between Athens and Augusta, was one of numerous small outposts on the colonial frontier built for American settlers to defend themselves against enemy soldiers and hostile Indians.

Robert Carr was a cattle farmer who settled with his wife, children and a single middle-aged female slave in Wilkes County after colonists started arriving there in 1773.

Carr also served as captain of a militia company of roughly 100 men. Responsible for leading his militiamen and looking out for their families, Carr built a stockade wall to protect his farmhouse and surrounding property, which included shacks and crude shelters.

Though probably no larger in area than a tennis court, Carr's Fort would have needed to hold 300 or more people, said Robert Scott Davis, a history professor at Wallace State Community College in Alabama who has studied and written about Wilkes County's role in the American Revolution since the 1970s.

"Most of the forts on the frontier were small community affairs," Davis said. "Everybody in the militia company took refuge inside the fort when the community was in danger because either the British were coming or the Indians were coming."

In February 1779, about 80 British loyalists marched into Carr's Fort and took control, presumably while Carr and other patriot militiamen were away.

Patriots responded quickly by sending 200 men from Georgia and South Carolina to retake the fort. Davis said the Feb. 10 gunbattle was short, with most of the shooting likely over within 20 minutes, but it left more than a dozen fighters dead or wounded on each side.

Patriots gained the upper floor of a nearby building and fired down into the fort. Innocent bystanders — women, children and old men inside the stockade walls — had to huddle under cover during the firefight.

Although somewhat rattled, the good-natured 19-year-old pop star and his 8-piece band completed the song while the struggle continued until the piano and the attacker were escorted off stage.

After a three-minute break, fans got the thrills they expected from the conclusion of the show, with Justin Bieber performing an encore of “Boyfriend” and “Baby.”
According to TMZ, the Justin Bieber attacked headline began after a man ran onto the stage during the Biebs’ concert in Dubai, India, while the pop star was singing his hit song, “Believe.” Fortunately, before the man could reach him, Justin Bieber’s security guards tackled the man to the ground, and the show went on without any more incidents.
Justin Bieber attacked by a fan has happened in the past, as it seems that sometimes both his male and female followers get too much of a case of Bieber fever after seeing him on stage and in person.

The only thing injured in the potential “attack” was the piano, as the stage jumper knocked the Biebs' piano during the concert clean off its hinges in the middle of the song.

The 19-year-old, who is currently on tour in Dubai before heading for Cape Town, South Africa, was singing on stage and playing the piano when a fan grabbed him from behind. When security hauled the fan off the stage, the force was so great you can see the grand piano tip over.

It was quite the spectacle for fans who you can hear screaming on the video. However, the show must go on, and Justin continued with the performance as if nothing happened. Perhaps a mega star is used to it?

It's another headline for the Biebs. While the singer has been busy touring out of the country, E! News' Twitter and text messages were recently hacked, shutting down the services.

Fake messages declaring the pop star is gay and coming out were some of the offenses. E! News apologized and vowed to fix the problem.
